Mr. Blau's fullsome tone reverberates from a deeper place in his body. He has enviable breath support that allows long lasting resonance, even in his rapid, short notes. I am striving for that kind of potency and endurance myself. I can really appreciate his wonderful example.

Ah there are two types of flute players in this world. There are those who can play their flute, and those who can make their flute sing!

I feel lucky to be able to witness a part of masterclass by this excellent teacher-student pair. Both very talented and musical. The tension between the two was clearly felt in the beginning, as the student was unable to meet the teacher's expectation, but it quickly softened as it went on, and by the end the student was able to impress the teacher. Wonderful stuff.

The microphone is the reason his tone sounds "airy." If you stand right next to a flute being played, the tone sounds different 3 feet away, as shown. he has a very nice grenadilla flute. he is a remarkable flautist.

I've been to masterclasses and he's not being that particular. She needs to work on a flexible embouchure so the lower notes are stronger even if it's marked piano needs focus. When an actor whispers on stage they need the audience to hear them.
