Carnival Cruise Tips for Cruising with Family or Groups

My family said they wanted to do a cruise. I was like ok I will find one where everyone can pay. I found a good one through Carnival leaving out of Galveston in NOVEMBER 2025. I get our booked and I update in the group chat letting everyone know "Hey, this is for real. We are booked. It is not trash talk.". I have not heard anything in the group chat. They want one far put so everyone could get on a payment plan. Still not a word. Oh well. I tried.

I brought up a group cruise to my family. Everybody was on board. So I talked to Royal, booked my stateroom..gave everyone the details and left in it in their lap. Not gonna run BIG grown people down.

I just got back from a Carnival Cruise and a large family group of 20-30 had walkie talkies and said they had no issues. These were not seniors. I was surprised. (I wouldn't want to do it though.)

My husband has a group cruise organized for March 2024 for 20 people. He likes to set general plans and not plans details or do research to the last minute. I research everything, plan, and over organize to come over prepared. Tip number one is very accurate. Only 4 rooms (6 people) outside of us,have paid their for their cruise, made payments, or made their full deposits, and we put this to them back in March. So we may go from a group of 20 to 8 or less.

I am the primary planner for a group of 28 going on the Carnival Celebration in Jan '24. At first everyone was himhawing about where, and when, and what. I finally booked my cruise and told them join or not. They all decided that was the cruise they wanted to go on. 😂 I am excited and nervous lol.

The way I hollered when I heard this first tip!!! I’m in the process of a group cruise with my cousins (my mom is also 1 of 12 so 30+ cousins on her side, not including their spouses/kids) and tried to make it as inclusive as possible with “we just want to be together” in mind. Chose a central location for our departing port, the cheapest cruise line (Carnival, no hate though, they’re my first choice), and during a time most convenient for kids (Thanksgiving). Had a good group that was down.. until I got a travel agent involved. Including mine, only 3 families are currently booked. Us 3 typically travel together, and we all know this isn’t our first pick. So now we’re stuck going on this cruise, in hopes that others will join later. But I wish I would’ve known this before, never EVER again!

Just got off the Magic on the 2-10th sailing. Like y’all, I may be a little lucky too but embarkation was a breeze. Had a check in time of 12:00-12:30. It took 20mins or less. Gave our bags to the porters, flew to the elevators, got inside the terminal, easy. I’m a red card but got directed to the gold/platinum side. Went through metal detectors, got our passports checked and were on the ship! It was lovely! ☺️ If you go to the Atrium bar, the bartender, Robby was my favorite, he’s a joy!

We had a beautiful family trip on the Horizon very recently (August 2023) It was 21 of us. I loved the look of the ship, my sister treated me to a massage at the spa which I really enjoyed, the food was good ( they are avid cruisers it was my first and thanks to your tips I could make some suggestions. Great trip full of love and laughter and food and activities. Ready for the next!😊❤️💕

Just had another thought, when you said if a group member books on their own, outside the travel agent. Thats exactly what i did, because i was forewarned that the agent our group organizer picked was "brand new" in this career. Talk about awkward. But i did call him anyway (for the sake of family...). I called, no answer, no business message on his phone. I emailed, with about 6 detailed but very standard cruise questions, introduced myself etc. His exact response: "Ok, ill send the package."😂 Im like what? So he proceeds to send HIS agent package, i dont know what. Lingo and terms and prices. Couldnt make heads or tales out of it. So back n forth several times. I just had the normal questions: what are the cabin options with rates, etc. He could not answer my questions. So i booked thru the cruiseline. I tried, but i couldnt continue on with that. At that point i needed to have some confidence in our trip. But now i guess we are sort of fragmented from the group. Lol. No clue how this will play out.

Lynette, that sounds like my family. My family is huge! Over 50 1st cousins. I love planning my family cruise reunions. I have done it, and it is hectic! I have taken a couple of pointers from you which was very useful. Especially, having people in on the decisions, and dropping you half way through the project! Been there! We are going on our first family cruise in a couple of months (November) on Carnival Breeze out of Galveston. Can’t wait!! My husband and I did RC’s Liberty of the Seas for our 25th anniversary in 2016. It was nice and very laid back. At the time, that’s what we wanted since it was for a special milestone occasion. There were hardly any kids on there. A plus. LOL. We really enjoyed it! I heard that Carnival is the party ship so that’s why we decided to go with them for our family cruise! Im about half way into your video, so not sure if youll address this later, but: Which activities do you recommend groups coordinate to do together vs not? For instance, already, turns out ill be solo during half of Ensanada because my husband wants to ATV with his 2 daughters, but I dont wanna go, and then be all dusty dirty for the rest of that day in port. Also, dinners: we will want to eat some dinners with the group, but not every single meal. If i was the group organizer, id be real clear , like "hey this is what we are doing, if you wanna join with fine, if not cool too", but with this upcoming trip, the organizer hasnt set any expectations yet. So, now we've booked and paid, so want to start planning meals, excursions etc.. Just wanted your thoughts on that part. 😉thanks.
