Meet my Mom Melissa, she is healthier now at 62 than she has been in 30 years. In this video we check in to see how the last month of strict Carnivore has been for her. We discuss specific medications she was on and what it is like when we all visit.
To see the first discussion on how she transitioned from Keto to Carnivore, lost 70 pounds, reversed her diabetes, and reduced her arthritis pain check out the first video we did.
• Meet My Mom: Keto to C...
I will do another update with my Mom over Christmas...leave any questions you have for her in the comments below.
***The podcast we mentioned about dairy is the Fat Emperor Podcast (Ivor Cummings) Episode 41 called "Low Inflammation High Fat Living"

Eating out is not just about convenience, there is also the social aspect with people living alone (even if you aren't directly eating with another person). Hope you are paying attention to this and get the social outlets you need during your recovery. Sending prayers and healing energy to you.

Thank you for adding this information about eating out. I have recently been widowed & can now understand in spades the challenges of living alone for the first time in my life. The shared meals are mostly gone now & it's tough. Cooking for one: ugh. Yes, it can be cheaper to eat out & the social aspects are valuable.

Yes that is a big part of it for her. She eats out with friends often. She is starting to cook more at home with them as a trade. But she will never not go out entirely for those reasons. 🥰🥰

Would love more of her! Prayers for all to go even better than expected regarding her up coming surgery and recovery. Sounds as if that might be a bear... living alone. But she is a proven trooper, so I know she will do great... especially, following her diet.

This video resonated strongly with me. I too am 60 years old. I lost my daughter about 12 years ago and I was unexpectedly widowed 5 years ago. I live alone and I live with a lot of memories. This also causes the late-night emotional eating. I don't want to say it's nice to know that there's someone else out there that understands how I feel, but it is helpful to know that people really do understand. I really wish you luck on the cheese I know how terribly addictive it is. I bought a waffle maker but decided not to move forward with making the chaffles because I knew it would be a slippery slope for me so it sits in the box unopened. I've been afraid to give up some of the supplements like magnesium and potassium because I had an emergency room doctor tell me straight out that my diet was killing me. The woman was too tunnel focused to realize I was having a panic attack, she was blaming all my symptoms, that felt like a heart attack, on my diet. She really rattled my cage at the time but with some time an perspective I know she was wrong. But yet I still take the magnesium and vitamin D each day. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with your surgery recovery and I'm looking forward to your video in December. No pressure...……... but I'm drawing on your strength right now. Hugs

Belinda, I'm sorry for your losses. I also have panic attacks that feel worse than when I had my heart attack. What I find helps me is magnesium. I have transitioned from taking magnesium supplements to drinking electrolyte enhanced water (snake juice). I basically add potassium, magnesium, sodium, etc. to water using the recipe I found from another KZbinr to drink when doing long duration fasting. If you are interested, I can point you to her video. Like Laura, Kacy is inspiring and encouraging. Wishing you all the best, Belinda.

Make sure you are taking your vitamin D3 with vitamin k2. K2 steers D3 where to go, without it D3 will be sent to the wrong part of our bodies. This is crucial.

Melissa, I took a moment to look back at a video from September that you and Laura were in. What a major difference in your face! You look so much younger. I’m nearly 67 and am definitely going to start the carnivore diet in January. Between holidays and grandchildren birthdays it’s going to be a losing battle for me before then. Plus my supermarket always has a sale on rib roast and leg of lamb around Christmas and Easter time. So that’s when I’ll stock up. Good luck. You will be a motivator for me.

Thank you Laura such an inspirational video with both you ladies! 💕 Your mom rocks. She's lived through so much yet looks at improving & enjoying life. By the grace of God I get through my challenges. On the far side of 67 I can say that the lack of estrogen affects everything so adjustments have to be made. Then some of us are more insulin resistant than others. Continuing on my new journey going carnivore second month since was stuck in keto not losing wt & looking for further healing. I haven't been eating any nuts & only occasionally do I have cheese, do have cream in coffee a few days a week. I'm kind of tired of eating meat, ahh but true though hanging in. Am eating less as not so interested in meat, tired of eggs but I think I need to increase what I'm eating; I never ever thought I'd say that. But if I took in more I think I'd lose weight. Best wishes to you and your mom, her surgery and recovery, adding prayers.

A tip for eating at home. Sometimes I find i don't have the time or even want to take time to prepare my food, so I'll grill 4 ribeyes at a time and a pound or so of flap meat. After cooling i put in a container in the fridge and when I'm ready to break my fast I have food I can heat in the air fryer or microwave for a quick meal. I slice the meat fairly thinly so that it heats quickly. Put some real salt on it and have a beautiful bowl of meat!

Hey there... I'm new to your channel. Your intro video popped up in my search feed when I typed in 'carnivore meals' and I found that very interesting. Although I applaud your success and am interested in your story, what has made me subscribe is to watch and hear more about your mum's journey. I'm am approaching 59 and am on the cusp of T2 diabetes. I suffer from metabolic syndrome and have a lot of internal inflammation (IBS, hernia and asthma). Whilst there are many vloggers on KZbin of your generation - there are sadly only a few who are on the more 'senior' side of life's journey. I have been keto for a while, which is helping, but am leaning towards the carnivore woe and your mum's experience is both valuable and insightful. So thank you both for sharing.

Hi Laura and Melissa. I've just discovered your channel and love your videos. I am 60 and decided to give mainly animal foods a go and see what happens. I'd like to share a little story. I began only 4 days ago and I'm blown away at how quickly my body responded. Firstly, eye floaters gone within the first 2 days. I'd had knee pain for several months that just would no go away, by day 3 - gone. I went out to dinner with a friend last night and (stupidly) ate chips with my steak, oh, by the way I'm Australian we call fries chips. I was amazed that I could actually taste the vegetable oil on the chips, but I ate them anyway. I had the worst night sleep last night, very disturbed and broken sleep and my knee pain was back, I can only assume it was the oil and or chips that caused this because I've been eating only bacon, eggs, cream, some raw milk and beef since day one of my experiment. Thank you both for sharing your experiences, it is very encouraging. Especially because there's so little information on dietary success and advice for older women, it's like we don't exist, or it's not recognised that older women's bodies may not respond to various diets the same way younger women's bodies do. Having said that, it seems clear that the carnivore way of eating may be the exception. God bless you both and I wish you continued success and happiness in your carnivore lifestyles.

Laura, I've only watched a few of your videos as I'm researching this lifestyle change. You are a natural at interviewing people and KZbin content. Years ago, I was dairy free, except for butter and heavy cream in my decaffeinated coffee. But, slowly, dairy (mostly cheese) has crept into my diet. I know it's inflammatory. It will not be in my diet as I start this way of eating next month. (I have several social events in the next few days, otherwise I'd be on it now.) I'm stocked up on GF and finished beef that's on sale this week. I'll probably go back for even more as it freezes so easily. I'm thinking I'll start keto, add IF (though I've practiced that off and on for 5 years when I retired early), go OMAD and then go carnivore. I am insulin-resistant, probably have metabolic syndrome, pre- if not diabetic, high blood pressure. And even though I'm morbidly obese, I'm focusing on getting healthy first. I'm too young to have so many health issues.

Sigh. I know. Nuts and cheese. My go-to snacks. I have drastically cut back on those, although I still eat them. We have hens and they provide us wholesome, healthy eggs. WHY I don't keep hardboiled eggs in the fridge for snacks I attribute to...laziness. I have found I don't eat *enough* with OMAD. Surprisingly. I stop or gain weight with OMAD. I eat within a "window" during the day and with fasting twice a week seems to work for me. I recently passed -50 pounds this week...Halfway! Glad for this update. You can do it! God bless you during your surgery and recovery.

Love what your mom said about realizing it's better to focus on the activities and time together with the grandkids than on giving them sweet treats that are actually harmful for them. Wishing her success and a quick recovery from her surgery. :)

I really like to hear about your mom but I relate much more to you since you struggled with your weight most of your life. My mother was always at a good weight while we were growing up so she was very judgmental of both myself and my sister while growing up, which made our struggles worse. I am still overweight, have been doing keto but stalled badly for a long while, which is frustrating. I’m going to try carnivore as a last resort, along with longer IT. Fingers crossed.

I could be your mom’s twin sister (although I’m from the uk, so I say mum not mom! 😂) I’m 62 and 5’6, diabetic, not on any medication yet but my blood sugar is sky high. I’m 85 pounds overweight and have high blood pressure 😱. I’m starting carnivore tomorrow so I’ve been binge watching your channel! I lost 20 pounds doing keto about 8 months ago but been struggling to get back on it and I need to heal my body. I love your channel xx 🇬🇧

Congrats on your success with this way of eating! Your story is very inspiring! I’m 57 and have been diagnosed diabetic. I would like to try this way of eating. My question is what do you cook for the kids and other family members to eat that are not eating carnivore? What treats do you have for the kids? Having to cook meals for others and not eat what they eat is VERY challenging for me. Do you have any tips for this? Hope your Mom’s surgery goes well. I will continue following your story. Thanks for sharing!! 💕

Hi "Mum", Im on the other-side-of-the-hill too lol Im also home alone at night. I found cleaning my teeth straight after my main meal gets rid of the 'food' taste in my mouth so then I dont crave eating in the evenings. I also find if I take a book to bed early, Im too lazy to get out of my comfy space to go snack, so thats a trick I use. I took up crochet in July so that keeps my hands busy, you cant crochet & eat at the same time lol You look great! I also have hashimotos so Im interested in your journey. my local supermarket doesnt sell ribeye anymore. I also hate cheese but Ive given up the mountains of sugar I was surviving on, now I just need to give up my chicken flavoured chippies, (crisps) lol

you can make chaffles without cheese, they are called paffles, pork rinds crushed instead of cheese, they are good.
