Loved the plants you showed. You obviously like plants that are fun to look at, can I suggest Nepenthes! I only grow a Venus fly trap which I have kept alive for 3 years. Here in northern Ohio it is a challenge to replicate a N. Carolina bog where the Venus fly trap is native! I use garden sulfur, sprayed, to fight blight. This fall I purchased a 100 watt grow light to help extend the growing season. Now my plant is in winter hibernation in a room at 63 degrees. I' am not going to keep in a saucer of water, I will just spray water on it weekly. Enjoyed your video, thanks, Bye!!

Nice to see you back! It's a little sad this time of year but before you know it things will start growing again! My flytraps have already been dormant over a month now. I think my grandiflora might have died though. I did get a few gemmae from it so hopefully they survive the winter. Want to also try tuberous sundews one of these days.
@carnivorous_plant_girl3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yeah before we know it, it'll be spring! Can't wait for the next growing season, weather at the moment isn't inspiring. Shame to hear about the grandiflora, hopefully your gemmae will grow! Tuberous sundews have been a great addition to my collection, they are very fascinating, hoping to collect more soon! Happy new year

Glad you liked it! regias can be rather temperamental but are amazing plants! They don't like to be too hot and grow best with lots of light!

I have just purchased my first mini greenhouse and plan on growing mainly venus flytraps of different cultivars again. I used to keep them years ago, using just a coldframe. I had a plague problem with fungus gnats, that wiped out my vft collection So I am planning on buying some buttorworts Pinguicula Grandflora, so hopefully should control the fungus gnats in the future. Can you recommend any sellers of buttorworts in the UK? Fantastic video's by the way, very informative!
@carnivorous_plant_girl2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, there is plenty sellers about, I myself sell a range of plants to people in the UK including P. grandiflora, if not carnivorous plant Facebook groups often sell a variety of plants

Do you ever repot your bog barrels, I mean replace the soil with fresh soil? If so how often? Also what is your thought on skipping dormancy on seedlings? I’ve heard from other growers you can skip up to the first two years and no more.
@carnivorous_plant_girl3 жыл бұрын
My bog barrels are about to turn 2 years old and I have not replaced the soil, however when I have replaced plants I have added fresh media to the top and surrounding the new plant. If there is no decline with the plants I won't change the soil to prevent waste. I used to skip the first dormancy with Sarracenia and VFT however after keeping new seedlings in the greenhouse last year I found they grew just as well and I no longer skip dormancy periods as I have found the plants are fine.

Do you set up the bog barrel with a false bottom like a wicking pot with a pipe that goes to the bottom to water it🤔
@carnivorous_plant_girl3 жыл бұрын
No, it is simply all peat and perlite mix and then I have a pipe in the middle which shows me the water level in the planter. I water from the top with a watering can in the same way rain would fall :)

I’m in the UK too and first time having a winter with Mexican pinguiculas do they go dormant? I’m confused. I keep them in a heated greenhouse so unsure how to winter them.
@carnivorous_plant_girl3 жыл бұрын
Mexican Pings don't go dormant and need to be kept warm to survive, if your heated greenhouse in warm enough then it should be fine

Dear Reader, As an absolute beginner I've bought a Sarracenia, and Indeed it does grow. But it doesn't form chalices. It only grows a lot of upright embryo chalices. Like onion stems, a little bit round and semi hollow stems, but not mature chalices. And on the top slightly light brown immature tops. The plant is planted in peat moss, sand and perlite. And it stands in 2 cm of rainwater. At early night it stands in a very small plant shelf with a LED light. And at daytime it stands on a garden table in full sunlight (at bright days at least). It grows well, but not one pitcher has developed fully. More and more immature stems pop up, but not one grows into a chalice. How can I get my Sarracenia to grow real chalices? With Kind Regards, Michel F. van den Brun Hopefully not a Double Dutch Dutchman.
@carnivorous_plant_girl2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michel, welcome to the carnivorous plant hobby! It sounds like your Sarracenia needs more light in order to produce proper pitchers. If you have a outdoor space and live in an area without extremes in weather then you can keep your plant outside year round, this will allow it to get full sunlight. Hope this helps
@Jesus-eg3yb3 жыл бұрын
What media mixture do you use?
@carnivorous_plant_girl3 жыл бұрын
For most of my plants I used peat and perlite, the ratio depends on what I am potting up.

Aphids?
@carnivorous_plant_girl2 жыл бұрын
It could be the exoskeleton of aphids or even mealybugs. If there is a big infestation use something like bug clear ultra or provanto to tackle the worst of the problem
