She is the "Callas" of Mozart lyrico spinto soprano roles. Vanness' recitatives were full of drama. Her coloring was impeccable. She embodied these roles with a full voice. Her low chest notes a thing to marvel. I believed every singing emotion she gave us in The Mozart arias. I was lucky enough to see and hear her on stage. In these roles: the countess, Fiordiligi, Vitellia, Elletra, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira she still holds the high standard.

Vaness’s chiaroscuro is incredible here. The phrasing and deepness of the registers is gorgeously played. She only got better as time went on and the instrument became more firm and even. In this performance it’s as good as it gets.

I have quite a few recordings of Clemenza. This clip made me review all of them to see if anyone sang this aria better than Vaness, especially the tricky chesty passage beginning at 6:18. No one did. No one-not Varady (twice, for Böhm and Gardiner), not Baker (you could barely hear her chest voice), not Popp (fluttery). Maybe Marina Rebeka. Maybe. This is just truly astonishing Mozart singing.

nonsense! Varady is PERFECT and the only true Vitellia among others!! I heard this and thought it was great but when I find Varady... No one can sing like her! She's the only one with the RIGHT technique and strong voice which sounds mangificent and effortless! Vaness has no real chest voice and sings with too much strength and darkening which make the voice unclear and forced - it's NOT how dramatic soprano suppose to sound
