Quyen Dang Definitely a nice combo with guard amongst the brass. I think some are not understanding what you are saying. Anyway, several corps have done the banners over the years. SCV did a massive one in 91 for their Miss Saigon show. Crown uses it very well though.

This show so freaking energetic and intense. As a die hard crown fan. I watched a lot of their shows. I felt like this year's has a lot of old drills. Some of the drills are from previous show. I know that this is the preview show. Anyway, they still freaking killed it.

CAN EVERYONE STOP TRYING TO ANALYZE THE PLACEMENT OF THE SHOW AND JUST ENJOY IT FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES? Jeez, I feel like as a DCI community we forget that the main goal is to be entertained, not to figure how shows are gonna place when the season hasn't even begun yet. Each year I feel like DCI becomes more and more about winning and not about watching a bunch of musicians perform and entertain us fans. Then again, I could be completely wrong. Just relax and enjoy the show :)

Gerald Akenten I dont think you understand the nature of competition, This activity is like Basketball and Football for a lot of people. I personally love predicting the top 12 finalist groups and trying to place them early season. The nature of competition is what drives groups to improve.

This show is absolutely insane. I just watched it live in Akron tonight, and it blew me away, and I've been an avid fan of drum corps my entire life, and a watcher of seasons from before then. The sheer power of the hornline... The constant movement of the phrases... The intricacies with harmony... Just amazing. It's a shame to see people bash on it. Just because they aren't bringing out a crap load of props, using heavy synths, or playing weird atonal music does not mean that they are subpar at all. This is what drum corps is about. Loud, in your face, musical excellence. Bravo, Crown! An absolutely amazing show.

Guard is strong already this year. I can see them really keeping up with BD guard if they continue. The visual is good and unless you are new to the activity, you know that the drill will evolve almost weekly and the incredible ending will be added in mid to late July. Some are saying they don't hear the amazing brass runs and such - listen again. Plus you know Harloff is going to have them top notch as usual. I think what is bothering many fans is that this is a very dark show which that have not done in a long time. I can see the show evolving as Crown always does. This staff knows a few things. LOL.. Also, percussion doesn't seem that it will be an issue for them this year. So excited to see where this goes.

I feel like the hornline is more than capable to pull off the original runs in dies irae. That might be a later addition to the score and really bring that Crown "holy crap they're incredible" sound. But the ballad.....dear God that was gorgeous.

boxingfred It's better, but still a glaring problem. They've spent most of their time and effort in creating a great brass section, but really neglected the other parts of the corps by comparison. After their championship season, those problems have been magnified by a lot of those guys aging out, I would imagine.

Jeff Queen? Fairly certain that he's qualified to do the job well. And I don't think that the quality of DCI percussion judges is going to fall off so dramatically that it'll push Crown any higher than they deserve. You're looking at a battery with upside, but considering their past inabilities to get over the hump percussion-wise, it would be a fair assessment to assume that this year would be no different.

I see a lot of allusions to previous drill (which I think is cool). I see some 2010 at 3:00 and of course 2013 at 3:15. The guard is outstanding, and the general effect is already present unlike the beginning of last season (which they developed nicely over the course of last summer). I love the dark ambience of the musical selections and the OVERALL design of the show is phenomenal in my opinion. Look at the uniforms: 8 red stripes on the torso/left leg and 1 stripe on the shako to represent the nine rings of hell as described in the Divine Comedy. For those who avidly follow Crown, this year's hornline is at least a little bit younger than years past, but I'm sure they will grow to be even more incredible. I wouldn't say the brass is lackluster, but I also wouldn't say that the brass is the strongest point of the show as of yet. Dies Irae and the Copland section will hopefully blossom as the summer goes on. I saw the show live last night and thought the brass was very mature sounding for June and the overall corps attitude is very cohesive. Honestly, I could not care less what this show will place, because I was thoroughly entertained last night and I enjoyed viewing these talented individuals and what a great program they have on the field this summer. They performed leaps and bounds better than I ever could, so I am not going to compare them to other corps or try to predict a final placement when Finals is just under two months away. Just enjoy the music.

Honestly, I love how there aren't many props on the field. I feel like it puts more focus on the corps itself and they have more room on the field to use. They sounded phenomenal as always, and while I had doubts about this show, I can't wait to see how it evolves. 1st place or 12th place, this show is going to be amazing. The only thing I didn't like was that I'm not sure if Beethoven's Ninth was the best choice for a closer. Who knows? Maybe it'll grow on me and I'll learn to love it. Either way, for me, definitely a one up from OOTW.

Visual is muddled, but again...june. horn book is...well safe. Couple of runs, staging is safe etc. Clean is great, at this level yhe technical just isn't there. Solid 4th-6th place show. Uploaded on day 13, of month 6. Coincidence? All jokes aside, the main thing we need to remember here is that every corps' show at this stage is going to be extremely dirty. And yes, even BD. The shows are also all going to be very different. This is more or less a blueprint. That being said, I see some great potential in this show, albeit a different styled show for Crown. I personally like a change in style every once in a while. It shows how the organization can be flexible and innovative in ideas. I would say I love what I see (because I really do), but I'm not going to make any judgment or assumption until a few weeks from now.

As much as I hate to say it, all I can think of is Blue Devils. It's just kinda...meh...Performance in brass, percussion, and guard are phenomenal, but the music writing and drill just seem boring to me. Dunno, those are just my two cents. Dude. The harmonies in this are ridiculous to tune. The more dissonance the more in tune you have to be to the chord. That's the hardest part of being a brass player. And right now they're killing it.

I know, I'm a brass player myself; that crap is friggin' hard to do, and it's darn impressive that they can play like this before the competitive season has even started. Like I said, the level of performance is crazy good already. It's the show design itself that puts me off a little bit. There's too much choreography that doesn't really fit with the music in my opinion. There's a way to do choreography that can really add to the show as a whole, and then there's adding leg flails and lunges every 4 counts (obviously, I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get my point). Unfortunately, I feel my own judgement towards the latter. But, as I said, the season doesn't even start until tomorrow. It's too early to judge the show at this point.

Ron Reed Lot's of people seem pissed that the Crown fans are being critical of the show so early on, but I'm pretty sure if the fans are dissatisfied with the show that the directors want to hear all of that feedback. The specific comments people are making will likely be things that the corps ends up improving. I felt the same way as you during the preview show for Out of This World, but by the time they got to Tennessee it was a solid show. This one is being executed much better than that one was by June 13, even if the show itself is a little bland. Their execution is already pretty impressive!

Crown has been my favorite since 2003. This is the first show since that time that I am genuinely underwhelmed (and yes, I know it's early). This is honestly a 8th-12th place show, in my opinion. There were no wow moments at all, and the mellophones are virtually non-existent. SMH>

They just have too much talent and recruiting power to do poorly. It would take several years of poor results for them to start losing their presence.

BestInklinkerEver lets be real here. Recently as far as I know there are no real dark shows closest to dark is the last 2 cavies shows and come one... they weren't that dark either. well now as im writing it BAC last season was more dark than cavies and this as I see it thus far
