I remember when James Taylor introduced this... it drew us into a misty melancholy that both soothed and tormented. Since him, I have never - ever - heard anyone do this cover with his spell. You just did. Stopped me in my tracks. Beautiful. You captured the whole magic, sorrow, longing and hints of hope. Simply beautiful. I'd love to experience your performances live one day.
@mcren6781 Жыл бұрын
Chill bro, it’s melancholy but tormenting is not a word I would use to describe this song or any music, lol.
@raymondlau1453 Жыл бұрын
I also love the version by Ian Matthews.
@rk3carpentry Жыл бұрын
The word 'tormented' applies beautifully to any art that makes you remember what you've been through. Maybe some people have been through hell (addiction, abuse, loss) and this music speaks to them. So yeah, I'd say 'tormented' is a fair word to apply to art or music.
@alexbowman7582 Жыл бұрын
He signed for Apple. Must have played this to the Beatles first. Taylor’s Something In The Way was borrowed by George Harrison and the line “dark side of the Moon” was probably the inspiration for a certain rock album.
@richardstones64453 ай бұрын
@@alexbowman7582 Also, JT plays this (and most of his music) with a blend of pure finger picking and an index finger brush-strumming style. It is interesting that he introduced this style with this song at Apple Records in 1968 (McCartney recorded the bass), and then in 1969 Paul adopted this style for "Blackbird" on the Beatles White Album.

This is a harder song to play than meets the eye (or ear). Lots of intricate tonal changes as the chords transition. I have always liked the original version of the song rather than Mr. Taylor’s later iterations of it. On the original, there is a riff Mr. Taylor plays after the lyric, “there ain’t no doubt in no one’s mind that love’s the finest thing around. Whisper something soft and kind” that I have loved since I heard it on the original album when I was 11 years old! Something about that 3 second guitar riff that stuck with me.
