Don't be afraid to sew curved quilt blocks! Sewing curves takes a little bit of practice, so start out slow. And if you want some practice sewing curves, you can make the quilt block shown in the video. Find it at www.AlwaysExpectMoore.com
This quilt block is super quick to put together, and is so versatile! You can use it as intended, as a Family Crest quilt block. Or you can use it to represent a shield or other similar symbol.

Thank you for this tutorial! I was doing the fold and pin method but it was way too time consuming. After watching this video and using this technique, I was flying through my stack of curves. 💞💕

You explained and demonstrated perfectly! I tried this technique on fabric scraps - and was pleasantly surprised with the result. It’s mildly tricky but totally doable. And no profusion of pins too :))

Yay! It gets even easier with some practice. I'm usually too impatient for pins, so I love a good no-pin method. Glad it worked for you! 🥰

Nice work! Good instructions. Nice voice to listen to. Good tips and tricks. I wish I could have seen the sewing better. Your hand was in the way as you were sewing.

Thanks! Always tricky trying to manage everything at once - what to say, what to do, where the camera is pointing ... I did notice my hand was in the camera angle and got it moved out of the way after a few stitches. I'm always trying to improve, though! 🥰

Yup! Not scary at all! Maybe people keep it a secret because they want it to sound impressive when they say they've pieced curves!

It takes a little practice, but not that much. In no time you can speed up and really zip through!

You mentioned the outer curve is smaller, is that so less bulk to sew in? Is that the same for all curves in patterns?
@CarolinaMoore
@CarolinaMoore 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, all curves in patterns will have this. It is because of the seam allowance. One piece has the seam allowance on the "outside" of the curve, the other has the seam allowance on the "inside" of the curve. The seam allowance is 1/4". If you draw a line in 1/4" from each curve, the two lines would be identical. That line you drew is where the stitching goes - the spot where the 2 curves come together they are exactly the same size. If you need a "real world" example, think of a jar. The lid is bigger than the opening of the jar. And yet it fits on the mouth of a jar. That is because in the spot where the lid and the jar come together, they are exactly the same size. Hope that helps!

@@CarolinaMoore how to calculate the opposite curve length for perfect flat panel ?

Let me see if I can explain. Start with a sheet of paper. Draw what you want the finished curve to look like. Then cut on that line. You have your two pieces, but without seam allowance. Now add 1/4" to each piece. This is your seam allowance. You can now sew the pieces together.
