I watched this last night and ran out this morning to buy yarn to make shawl #3. I have no need of a shawl here in sunny Sydney, and no idea what I'll do with it - but I had to have it! Guess it'll come in handy if I ever decide to move to.... the nineteenth century! Thanks for your wonderful, informative videos.

Wool makes the project very warm, so I suggest you use a cotton or acrylic, shouldn't be as hot. I just made my #3 shawl for a friend of mine. Came out so beautiful, so far. It took me over 24 hours so far

Interesting, I actually watched the pilot again today after watching your video. It actually seemed in a couple shots toward the end (about an hour in) that the shawl was a square folded in half rather than a triangle.
@TheSassy19629 ай бұрын
I think the shawl you think might be knitted is actually the Aurora Lace crochet pattern. I am not sure about the border, but I think we could figure it out. There is a KZbin video on how to do the Aurora Lace that I used for a sweater. I am so excited about these!

PS: if you look on the left side where you can see through the stitches to the sky, you can pick out the pattern of stitches.

Loved this! You did a great job! I searched Little House on the Prairie Caroline Ingalls Shawl and found several pictures that are nice and sharp from the show. One has 3 pics in zone of the Granny square shawl. It looks like you were right on both options to me. The edge has the grannys on top of each other but the body has them split like normal. It least, that's what it looked like to me. Then, there's a pic of her with one that is obviously a square that is folded into a triangle and there is a wine colored one that she wears as a sontag. There's several pics. I saved then and I will send them to you, if you like and save you the trouble if scrolling through all the pics that aren't of her in the shawl. There are also some "remake" attempts but none as good as yours! There is one or 2 that are absolutely knitted. I saw one that you didn't have or that I missed as you were going through them. Thanks for doing this series. I love love love it!

Such a great video. Don't worry about not being able to find the correct words , some people are more visual in explanations and tasks for learning than reading directions. This figuring out a pattern and from knit to crochet is a superpower. Love it.

I agree that the one shawl is knit. The biggest reason I think that is because of how it drapes. Your crochet version is beautiful and looks so snuggly warm.

Yes!!! That's what I'm talking about! You NAILED IT girl! Thank you Corina! You rock! I loved all 4 shawls, however my favorite was the 3rd one with the all the ridges and shells and single crochet ridges at the bottom, as all the different stitch patterns in it were absolutely gorgeous to look at and just made it so textured and drew me in to it, that make sense? Which made it the best of the all of them. I think I will try that one first. But I'm so happy that you did this video, it was fun and exciting and you just totally went the extra mile and I find myself following your videos more than any these days I'm always wanting to see what you've come up with next...❤😊 we love you too, you're such a fun host and creator. I grew up on LHOTP, my mom even gifted me her childhood set of the books which her mom (my nana) had as child - they're second edition prints with the pictures in them and everything. It's a precious heirloom at this point. I'm making the knit-converted shawl for my mom for her birthday! I'm going to include the single crochet ribbing after the shells because the more accurate the better, I'm going to print out a picture of Caroline wearing hers to give to her with it. Thank you so much for creating this video to follow, my mom is going to LOVE this shawl!!

In addition to my previous comment, I wanted to add that my favorite shawl of this bunch was the same as yours. My preference is the scalloped shell border all the way. I love lacy things and pretty borderlines on my triangle shawls though. I think that's the one I'll make with some of my treasured luxury yarn. Yours looks so cozy and wonderful to wrap up in. I can show you the finished product, if you're interested in seeing that combination.

I do think you nailed them, Corinna! I love love love all of them! I can't wait to go back to this and make one of them - or all, I don't know yet! I was hoping you would show how to do the little pattern from 1862 you showed at the beginning, that would have also made a neat border for the one with the fringe, I think (instead of fringe). Yes, I think the one from the early episode is a square shawl, which would be fun to make as well. Love you Corinna!!!! 💜💗🧡♥💚

What a fun theme for a crochet series. I was a little girl in the early 90s and when I was in elementary school, I remember owning and reading a few of the Little House on the Prairie series. I remember the TV show airing too, but I never watched it. These days I follow the Townsends channel on KZbin which covers many facets of 17th and 18th century life. These designs are reminiscent of some of the fashions I see in historical records and reenactments of that time frame. My tendency recently has been making old fashioned doilies with atypical yarn. Right now as I watched this, I was working on a pineapple doily, made with one of those vibrant cotton gradient cake yarns. That makes me now want to start on one of these shawls using hand-dyed merino in modern colorways.

I enjoyed watching your video. Thank you for sharing this! There was a different one Carolyn wore in Season 8, Episode 12, when she was looking for Gideon. He was a little blond-headed boy who studdered and had run away after being made fun of. The shawl was a more open work but had some more solid part. It's hard to make out the pattern to see if I can make it..Do you have anything on that scarf? It looks like a more rectangular on that she wore alternately as a head/neck scarf and as a shawl. I just discovered your channel and love it! I just love vintage crochet.
