Loved it Caroline. I could see myself in so many places as an outlaw. There is a thin line where nature meets man made laws. I think we have been so over burdened by the man made laws that we have stopped noticing the absolute precision with which the laws of nature work. Being punished for stealing is a man made law, so one cannot pluck a flower from someone’s garden but plucking a flower from the wild is okay. Nature is free for every living creature. From air to gravity. I think the problem started when laws were first needed for human beings to live together as a society. For example there is law to wear a car seat belt for our own protection, these laws can be paternalist laws but they are for general safety. How to live, what to eat, when to eat etc are all the laws that are handed down. Problem begins when laws are made to suit the few, which is why we will see more and more outlaws. I'm Def an outlaw, and have gone thru shapeshifting versions. As a black woman, I had to break the law that made me bottom of the pile, but it eventually and maybe inevitably got my ego over inflated. There are familial and social laws that are self serving but many that make sense, of course, and I think these in particular prepare us for the unbreakable universal laws that are here to serve each and all of us perfectly.

One of my forms of outlaw was being late for work. I could not see how having to be there at nine every morning had to apply to me, and, privately, I did experience that rule as being a bit humiliating. It occurs to me that the outlaw is related to the magician, the one who is clever enough to seem to outwit normal expectations. An example might be Harry Houdini. Orpheus, who tried to use his musical gift to persuade Hades to release his wife from death, may be a vivid example of the genius outlaw. At the end of his life, he was torn to pieces. Mozart deals with the concept of the genius outlaw in the Magic Flute. There are people who know the rules of life so well that they can act in perfect accordance with them, and, thus, seem to transcend them. An example of that would be the high-wire artist Philipe Petit, who set up a wire between the two Twin Towers and walked on it. He knew the laws of physics, winds, balance, etc. so well that he could do something that seems impossible to the rest of us. He was in fact, arrested for this prank, and his sentence was to give a concert at Central Park. I knew somebody who had a bit of the outlaw in him. He always said, in a bit of the swaggerish way, that he would never go to a nursing home. Like all of us, he grow old and very frail, and then his wife could no longer take care of him. On the day that he was told that he had would have to move into a skilled nursing facility, he died on the spot.

That's intriguing. I've always thought of some behaviors as part of the trickster archetype. I do cross through the gas station in order to avoid the traffic light, maybe there is some Outlaw in it.

Thank you! I love this exploration! I was watching the show-off outlaw drivers the other day, who must (?) believe what they're doing is cool and right in some sense, and thinking about the archetype, maybe Hans Solo (but really, he had a good heart, and was redeemed!) and people I've known. Do the teenagers like this outlaw, who can transport them into a richer world than the family life they've known- or been stuck with? I didn't love show off drivers, ever, but befriended runaways, who broke rules just by leaving their families... I tend to follow a lot of rules as a matter of course (for getting along in our village as you said). I had to make a point of going out the "IN" door on purpose a few times in life, just because it seemed "too good' not to ever have done it! YET: I really actually dislike being told what to do, especially when it's little signs taped on walls about behavior, things I think people ought to already know as a matter of course! And I like to know people doing interesting things along the edges, and to assess whether I believe the laws make sense, should be defended or repealed. (Ok, I do come from 3 generations of attorneys with a judge!) Thanks again!

Sometimes I play games in a way that surprises people because I’m allowed to take risks against bodies of law without kickback. The part of me inside that yearns to upend corrupt rules or events get to exercise itself. I never thought of it as the outlaw archetype, I associated it with the word justice.

Dearest Caroline- my go to guru/mystic of our times, smiles. This really is fascinating! I have a big wicked grin on my face and chuckled thru-out your video. What is it about the outlaw that is so appealing to me?! Altho I do not have the "ovaries" to break society laws, criminal laws, hurting another human being[ on a conscious level] ( even if I don't agree with many of the newest laws, that are sooo dumb- list is endless) That said, I admit, I always rooted for Steve McQueen in the Thomas Crown affair, rooted for Ben Affleck and his crew in " The Town", the James Cagney films, James Caan in the Film " Thief", absolutely Robin Hood...the list is endless! O, and of course John Dillinger, played by Johnny Depp in Public Enemies😅😂, I'm giggling with guilt of admiring the " bad guy"- and I am not talking about serial killers, rapist, and other disgusting characters in real life. But what is it about those type of outlaws that I found myself saying outloud, go, get away! Ha! And, never dreaming or considering doing any of these break the law things, but fascinated by those who do live outside of the box, have the guts to literally breaking " those type of laws", yes! I thought about this a lot, since I was surprised by much of the way you described the Outlaw archetype. I have the Rebel as my primary archetype, and instinctively thought that the Outlaw would be closely aligned with this. When you discuss privilege and government, this just feels like something different to me. I mean, Caroline, you’re the expert; I was just shocked. (Maybe I consider them Bullies, Tricksters, criminals, and worse... I’m sure I could think of some other archetypes.) The reason I think of the Outlaw as noble is because so many man-made laws are nonsensical, intrusive, and they are applied without even any semblance of equal “justice”. I wouldn’t have considered being outside natural or Universal Laws. I also place a high value on self-sovereignty, and I am willing to accept responsibility for my choices. If someone told me to “follow the law” (or another command along those lines), I would tell them to mind their own business. I have a really hard time understanding why people want to meddle in the lives of others, when their choices and lifestyle don’t affect anyone else’s well-being or property. It’s an invasion of privacy and even a violation of free will in some cases. I was reminded of the GREAT John Lewis, who lived the ultimate example of getting into “good trouble”.

When it comes to property, I am of the opinion that the world and all its resources should become the common heritage of all the world's people. As soon as someone claims, let's say a piece of land with a lot of resources for example, they have already taken it away (stolen it) from the rest.

There are levels of law, natural law, human law, spiritual law.. Nature's laws are different for a small system or grouping of say 10-or 12 than for a thousand. I feel like an outlaw because I felt the social injustice of laws/rules for girls growing up in the 60's. The boys had much more freedom and privilege. Many human laws are constructed from fears and those seem to be developmentally destructive. I am still alive though, yet still unsquishing and unraveling from early developmental constraints.

I rebelled a lot when I was a teenager, and although I was a little shite back then in a lot of ways, I still respect the young person I was. I was rebelling against my parents and their world, which back then was Reaganomics and I looked into the future and saw no place for myself. I still do not believe in humanity's version of life--particularly Western civilization. I've withdrawn my allegiance from humanity and aligned it with Earth and Life.

Do you make a distinction between laws and authority? When the laws are corrupted, it is the responsibility of a person of conscience to be an outlaw. We live in a time when authorities are no longer to be trusted. I am an outlaw in this respect. The politics, the for-profit medical world, the laws protecting businesses that are destroying the water and air necessary for life, these are law makers that must be broken.

I wish I'd had the money to attend a Caroline event. I would have said I thought I was the outlaw, though until now I've thought of the archetype as the Rebel. I've wondered if it was connected to the wounded child, but the need/desire to feel myself immune to laws of eating, in my case, feels more hard-wired. I wish CM would say more explicitly what the high side of each archetype is, or the path the healing. I guess it's trying to humble ourselves to the need to follow laws like everyone else? And, since I'm such a rule-follower in every other aspect of life, I wonder if over-emphasizing one area (food for me) to be an outlaw is common.

I think ‘criminal’ and ‘outlaw’ have been a bit collapsed here maybe? The outlaw usually has a higher moral code ( so, ironically is more attuned to ‘law’) whereas a criminal just has no respect for consensual law and will do whatever serves them and whatever they think they can get away with.

We absolutely all embody the outlaw, from the moments we choose to speed a little bit thinking ‘but I’m running late so it’s ok for the minute’ to much bigger examples as you illustrated with the examples you gave. There’s the privilege (some sense of entitlement in wanting to be special/not ordinary) motivator but also I think the thrill of being able to get away with something - a wild side that wants to break free of constraints to demonstrate our inherent sovereignty.. perhaps they’re essentially the same at their core..? 🤔 But definitely we all do it/ are it! Happy to admit it personally, because its so true and the taboo of it is what causes the shame in being able to admit it which is a whole other subject .. Thanks Caroline! The law outside of which I sometimes preferred to live, is the LEGAL law, because I didn't agree with all of it. I broke it many years ago and paid the price! But all you say is far, far more than that. Much appreciate what you have said. As an Asperger (a form of autism), I know that others see me as a maverick but really all I'm doing is living by a whole set of alternate laws, and I'm not alone in that because it seems to me our numbers are increasing.

There's different outlaw definitions. You can be an Outlaw by Societies standards, but totally Lawful by the Laws of Spirit. And you can totally adhere to society's rules, a real stickler for rules and yet be a total Outlaw to the Laws of Spirit.

Australia has so many stupid laws, rules, regulations etc I lived elsewhere and it was so laid back, esp in Mexico, and back in Australia and it just feels so stifling and restrictive. It's like the Government is Kindergarten teachers and they treat adults all like 5 year olds. To start a business here is just insane, just endless red tape and money. You basically you have to be rich and have connections. So when you say 'people want to be outlaws because they don't like rules' what if the rules are just so damn stupid and restrictive?

I didn't know if dissidents and activists count as outlaws. Some are very educated, even world renowned for their contributions, but still are able to follow Mark Twain's sage advice not to let your schooling interfere with your education. The establishment disqualifies their contributions. Maybe I watched too many Westerns when I was a kid, and I always think of an outlaw as being tough and street smart and often from the wrong side of the tracks.

Very grateful for this series. I am astonished no-one has ever raised their hand to say they identify with this one. I do. But I specifically identify with the "Robin Hood" version, not the privileged brat manipulator who feels above the law due to privilege. I was praying Robin Hood would get a mention. He is the virtuous exception to an otherwise problematic category. Lastly, I would say that there is not an adequate differentiation made here in this video between the "laws" of Nature (such as science and karma and other clearly non negotiable dynamics) ... and the legal laws of human society, which unfiortunately are sometimes/often primitive/biased/outdated/unjust. Further, I want to add that I understand the logic of the department store thieves. Why should it not be taken into account that the stores are huge and that the theft to them is as inconsequential as amosquito bite? Is context not a crucial part of how meaning is created? Should society's rules (in the context of law) be rigid impositions of a binary stamp of 'right" and "wrong" or rather should they be a response to an assessment of intention, impact and all other contextually relevant factors? Returning to Robin Hood, we love him because he stole from the rich to give to the poor. Perhaps some steal from large enterprises such as department stores with a similar perspective. Thank you.

Is this a separate / different archetype from the Rebel ? The Rebel is one of my archetypes and it has mostly served me well, esp in my spiritual seeking. That said, I am def a follower of society's laws & rules (like them or not) and, as an introvert, neither need nor seek attention (or privilege)... They must be different archetypes. ☺

This is fascinating. I do not relate to any of that. If anything, I am the complete opposite. I am a revolutionary and an anarchist who wants to overthrow rules for everyone and have the same rules for everyone. I would hate the idea of not living by the same rules as "the people". One thing i cannot stand is priviledge, entitlement and double standards. So no, I am definitely not an outlaw. I have also made my peace about life being able to take everything away that it has given me. I am just grateful for what i have and dont think that anything makes me superior to anybody else.

I always love anything by The Queen Myss. On this I didn’t feel it met the mark. Part of the Outlaw energy is the hero within. Politicians are crooks at heart-the bad ones. I would see Outlaws as knowing it’s not right but feeling driven to beat the “Man” (law, injustices to them or others) and give those around them a reason for hope! Every movie character, book etc., of the Outlaw inspires a hope and also an internal knowing that in the end --the Outlaw doesn’t go to jail but dies. Because if the Outlaw goes to jail he becomes broken and with is br\omen beaten spirit hope in others then dies. The whole politician as Outlaw or the privileged as Outlaws didn’t resonate. Elon Musk (like him or not) is not an Outlaw but a visionary. It’s not the super wealthy that live beyond the laws it’s all the less wealthy who want the power or money that the rich will offer to get out of being a part of the consequences of their actions-- so That is on those who seek power and wealth over standing up for what is right. The shadow side would be to the detriment, the hopelessness of those around the outlaw instead of the hope. CM you gotta find some newer references--B itch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? Really???

Any time in my life I've done an outlaw thing for another, or self, was for the betterment and was needed. Make own decisions for the situation. Im not a bragger, nor ashamed and have some really good stories! We all have to protect ourselves in this life.

Well to me it seems more like we can very well stop karma from having an influence on our life, it is obvious "do unto others as is done unto you", surely does not mean that EVERYBODY else sees your holiness and is going to treat you differently (which we should not be strive for, it is not specialness we need but as you said, to recognize we are all the same, with the same worth and the same value and that there are lows that apply to us all) jet if I treat people a certain way I can contribute to make their journey better if on one day they might not feel good or even get aggressive, offensive acc. the approach to worth this people is different therefore it will not influence you. Let God be your strength, does not mean impose your(ego)self onto others, but live the one law that does matter and will always, which is the one of love, respect, cooperation, humbleness etc. I'm not saying that make anyone any better for sticking to it but it is what we are all capable of doing and we can live by example.

Thank you so much, I wouldn't have recognized myself as the Outlaw, but am now in the 'deep-end' of my Shadow work and I had to laugh as my test results came in. I've spent 40 years in traditional psychology / psychiatry and was miserable. This is such a better path for healing. I will argue that not all outlaws think they are privileged or above the law. I think you are conflating 'the outlaw' with 'the villain'. I would say that as an outlaw , it is not so much that the law doesn't apply to me, but that the idea I need a law is preposterous. For example, do you think that if murder was suddenly legal, I would murder someone because I'm an 'Outlaw'? For me being an outlaw is understanding that some laws are offenses to basic human decency and intelligence. Most of the 10 commandments (Hamurabi's Law) are just stupid. Does the population really need to be told not to steal, not to kill, not to commit adultery? I think narcissistic people somehow share this archetypal energy within them generally. I mean, thinking about their grandiose manners of feeling entitled to do something without owing the results, it’s like a manifestation of an outlaw mindset but more likely on the darker side of this archetype 🤔️.
