This is a live recording from my recital, Music by Women, on March 27, 2023.
Caroline Schleicher-Krähmer was a German composer and pianist born in 1871. Her works were mostly chamber music and art songs. She was a student of Max Reger, who greatly influenced her compositional style. Schleicher-Krähmer's Sonatina for clarinet and piano, written in 1924, is a charming three-movement work that demonstrates her mastery of counterpoint and lyrical melodies. The first movement is a lively Allegro with playful dialogue between the clarinet and piano. The second movement, Adagio, is a melancholic and reflective melody that showcases the clarinet's expressive capabilities. The final movement, Vivace, is a light and joyful romp that brings the piece to a satisfying conclusion.
