it’s crazy, i lost my first boxing match after being 27-0 in amateurs when i was 15 due to a cramp. It hit me for like one second and I went down. My corner was telling me to get up but all i could think was fook that. I honestly thought I was dying it’s so scary.
@DonaldDump2024

MrSiingh Exactly. I couldn’t have gone on with the match like she did. The cramp (hamstring usually ) is so painful and if I exert the muscle any it comes back and sometimes starts in other muscles. Summers are worse because I work outside sweat like a sieve and I like tea and coffee which are diuretics.

***** that's like saying I've had a cut before so when my best friend got his throat slashed I couldn't understand why he died. They're are different level of severity and just because you've had a cramp before doesn't mean you've had this severe of a cramp. I unfortunately have and it was the worst pain of my life. 30 minutes of the worst pain i've ever felt without any relief... my quads stuck completely straight and back cramping so bad I couldn't breathe.

Maybe you should read your own comment. You said shit, I've had cramps before and I just sucked it up. Which is directly minimizing her situation and implying she should have sucked it up and the pain was not THAT bad. When in fact, it was that bad. Not going to argue with you but just wanted to shed some light on how severe and painful full body cramps can be having experienced them and ending up in the ER.

@@persephone2706 You're missing the point. Playing super-long matches is about fitness and endurance. While sex and gender can influence that, they are only one of many factors. Some male tennis would struggle with that and some women would not. Projecting averages onto individuals shows a misunderstanding of what an average represents. For those who said that she was being dramatic, cramps is fucking painful... I'm a healthy 27 years old male, and I screamed like a raped chihuahua for 1 minute when cramps hit. Now add the fact that she is so close to serving out the match, the gallery clapping and urging her on to not give up... can't you blame her for crying? That said, her opponent is too soft... cramping, though sucks, is not an injury, it is part of your body conditioning as an athlete to prevent that from happening in a match. she should have attack her more by giving a few moonballs, slices and drop shots to have her bends and run around, especially back and forth.

Yep, cramps are painful, which is exactly why this slamless vulture had no business making fun of Rafael Nadal at the USO in 2011 after he cramped during his press conference after a match. I'm glad this pusher lost her match at the AO today, and long may her losses continue.

Schelle7000 Wow... for a second I hated Caroline there... I never knew about that incident and checked it out, naah... it was just a funny jest... and I'm a huge Nadal's fan btw... And I just checked the match as well.. surprised to see her lost... I thought she was dominating the 2nd set when I left home. Anyway, I'm curious as to why do you hate her? She seems like a perfectly nice and cute girl.. and I never really read anything bad written about her, except maybe for some critics against her 2 consecutive year no.1 ranking while being slamless.... I don't follow Women tennis much myself... and the only tennis player that I disliked are Serena Williams (tho she seems to act better these days), Sharapova, and Agassi a little bit.

Ok I think the WTA needs to get rid of the number of times you can get treatment for an injury. As a trainer I'd have a hard time seeing a player in that much pain and sit idly by. As soon as she hit the ground I'd be running trying to give her some relief or something.
@lolipedofin
@lolipedofin 10 жыл бұрын
There's always the option for retirement (match, not career). No one is forcing Wozniacki to continue on here. I also think the entourage has the ability to enforce a doctor stop if the athlete is really pushing dangerously hard. The problem is, injuries are part of the sport and suppose to be part of the athlete conditioning obligation, especially cramps, which basically means running out of gas. There are actually athletes in ATP who complained that cramping should not be treated as injury at all, because it takes away the advantage of other athletes that actually has better stamina.

If you have a cramp you need to use the muscle opposite of the one cramping to relieve it. For example, if your calf muscle is cramping, grab the front of your foot and push forward towards your hand. This will use the muscle on top of the front of the leg (Shin) and that will release the muscle underneath (Calf). It's a simple technique that will work on other cramps. The idea is to make the body release one muscle because it is shifting to the opposite one. I saw a doctor doing this. It works.

I know this is a long time later but how do you do this, when 4-5 muscles are cramping all at once. I've had what happened to her 3 times now and when you go to stretch the 1st one cramping, another cramps in totally different area. Go to stretch opposite of that and another in different area. Imagine 4-5 muscles cramping all at once like an attack for 1 hour like this. It's excruciating and terrifying because you can't find a position to stretch anything and you end up falling to the ground and flailing around..she mentions in another video she needed IV fluids.. it's terrifying.

@@mikecorazza4294 adding to what I said above. It is extremely important to warm up and stretching muscles before commencing any exercise routine. I trained martial arts over many years and found that to be crucial to not having cramps. Also, at the end of exercising, it's equally important to warm down and do light stretching. DON'T skip doing these two simple steps. They will also help in the long term in avoiding serious or permanent injuries. Another trick to help, as used by the SAS, is to finish with a cold shower. It stimulates blood flow and healing. Good luck! Cheers!

@PJ thanks for the follow up all these years later! And totally understand and agree with what you said. But please know I've played years of competitive tennis and had the routine of all the things you said. Even was hydrating the night before, moring of matches, even prioritized sleep because I've noticed if I play hardcore sports and sleep poorly that night, I'll wake up more sore because I know muscles need sleep for recovery too. I could list you all the things before, during and after matches and it's way more than anybody I know does. And none of them cramp. Again, I'm not talking about 1 muscle cramp. I can deal with that. I'm talking about a series of events in what is an hour of my body attacking itself. My doctors are baffled and admitted true source of cramps is speculation. And they said what I'm expressing is more serious.

VeriTroll Worthy jr. Nonetheless she got back up and finished the game, how long did James have to recover? Plenty of time. She wasn't lying on the ground for ten minutes, she was down for about one minute. Her legs gave out and she was playing outside in like 100 degree heat. And the tennis players play longer, spend more time out in the hot sun. You're right there is no comparison. That girl is in better condition and has way more tolerance for pain than Lebron James. As you may or may not know, women typically have a much higher tolerance for pain than men. I know it must hurt to know that a woman can be tougher than a man(I'm a guy BTW) but this is the case with Wozniaki and James.

The pain is so intense that you feel like if your muscle is being pulled out from your bones....! Still, Caroline fought like a real champion and finally, she won the match. Bravo, Caroline ! We all love you.

Reminded me of the Micheal Chang vs Ivan Lendl match in the 90s. Chang servered underhand he was cramping up so bad.

Jovetj i don't think a player should have to withdraw just because appropiate conditions cannot be provided..

+kill pill Quite frankly, tennis isn't a sport for wimps. The rule makes perfect sense to me....if you have to pause a match 4 times for your injury, you probably shouldn't be playing. You show up to play, and if you can't do that, you withdraw. You don't make the opponent or crowd wait and tolerate your not readiness. If you can't play your match, you withdraw, and automatically lose. It happens all the time, and not just because of injury.
