Mike -- I'm glad the idea worked. I was about to turn a bunch of these, but my beautiful bride asked me to make some ring holders for our female relations. She also wants more lantern ornaments. Then, I've got to finish the candle sticks I started last year. After all of that, it's on to caroling gnomes!

Interesting! You could also turn those recesses out with a lathe tool, I think? Might be faster than switching out to a chuck and drill in the tailstock. Only really relevant if you're batch-making a large number, though.

Both ways work. Probably would have been better for me to show end gain hollowing. Being retired saving a few seconds one way or the other does not matter.
