I LOVE it! I watched your video 3 times and just finished my own- with a twist. I added 3 legs to the bottom and shaped my whistle like a rocket. A Christmas gift for a friend’s little boy.

Thank you, Sir!!! I have watched several of your videos now. I so appreciate your attention to detail, your tool-work, and helping me understand that it’s not enough to just make things functional, but that the details do make the difference. It is also of great comfort the way you empower confidence in your viewers. Your patience with your work yields awesome results.😊

Old guitar strings make good wire burners. You even get a (limited) choice of wire widths!

I have made hundreds of these and none of them ever work. Today, I followed your method exactly; even copying the design and it still doesn't work. Yours seem to work first time unless editing makes it look that way 🙂. Well done.....lovely project and skew work. Maybe one day I will make one that does actually whistle. Thanks

The only thing I can suggest is a hole or some other method at the end of the whistle for a lanyard for hunters and boaters...? Tomislav, maybe a good idea for a video would be using the lathe to make additional tools for the lathe, like sanding discs and sanding cylinders. Another great video!

Lovely whistle - thank you. If you drill a smaller hole does the pitch change?
@ianbedwell4871Күн бұрын
Pitch depends on the chamber length to a large extent, longer is deeper tone
@tomislavtomasicwoodturningКүн бұрын
Best things is to try different hole size and depth, and see what works

В моем детстве любой мальчишка запросто делал свистки из куска липовой ветки. Для изменения тона свистка с обратной стороны должен располагаться двигающийся поршень! Удачи! In my childhood, any boy could easily make whistles out of a piece of lime twig. To change the tone of the whistle, a moving piston must be located on the back side! Good luck!

I really enjoy your videos and I've learned a lot from them. I'm not afraid of the skew any longer! What did you use to de-clog your sanding drum? From Scotland.
@brianbest3777Күн бұрын
It’sca soft rubber eraser stick - widely available. V useful for cleaning sanding discs and drums

I've made several whistles but your technique with the skew makes my efforts poor by comparison. I turn mostly cherry and have many blanks of suitable size. I really like your smooth, simple shape. I think I'll try and make one of these this week.

Your skew is way thicker than mine. But I'll try to get it really sharp and see if I can make a whistle. Totally off topic, I have a piece of a tree that was knocked down in a storm. It is 9" in diameter and 14" long. How would you prepare it for turning? I was thinking of sawing it in half lengthwise, then again in half crosswise, giving 4 blanks 7" x 9" x 4-1/2".
