I'm an absolute beginner to fishing (only started this year), and its awesome to see all the natives out there. However, I'm saddened by the waste, so I promised the next carp we caught, I'll try to fillet it and cook it up. This video is my first attempt. This is a 63cm female common carp caught in the Goulburn river. She was caught, dispatched quickly, chilled and brought home. I watched a couple of how-to videos prior. It was a very interesting process.
I apologise about the video quality, still getting used to my GoPro.
She was absolutely laden with eggs, blew my mind. Hope there is something you can get out of it. We cut up the fillets, lightly battered and fried them in flour, turmeric, mixed herbs, salt and pepper. Served with chips and salad. Boney, but a decent feed. Definitely would do it again. I think this fish is severely underrated, and being able to 'use' the 'wastage' is significantly beneficial.
Hopefully we can reduce the impact of invasive species on our waterways without wasting life.
