One of my favourite things to do each summer is collect spawn from the lake and try to grow a few little carp. I popped some spawn into a little pool up at the top of the lake, nothing more than a ditch really and I couldnt wait to see if nature had worked it's magic........
One day I hope these will grow into the next generation of beautiful carp for anglers to admire along the way.

I love it mate, just chuck a bit spawn in a little puddle and let nature do its magic. Sometimes you win, sometimes they all disappear (get eaten)

I own 4 species of koi, which I am pretty sure are types of carp bred to be colorful. Their names are Snowball, Pumpkin, Ying Yang, and Troy. If I catch fish out of the wild, they are only small largemouth bass.

The secret is to not over feed them mate, feed them low oil pellets mate, that will be a great starting point.

@@BaitworksTV Cheers Mark, unfortunately I've had some that has passed away, I'm not too sure why. I'm just new to this pond stuff as the previous owner put these fish literally after buying the property off him. He has a filter unit with a small uv bulb and another bio filter. There's an additional 55w algae remover uv light. Water is getting clean but dont know why mirror carps in particular passed.

Same all the carp have been stolen and sold to match fisheries near me such a shame the council wont restock it i wonna grow about 1000 and bring it back to health

How long does it take for a carp this size to get up into the 3,4,5lb range? Also can you suggest any foods etc that might see my little guys get some size?

pellet is the best mate, fry crumb when small and smaller pellet when they get a bit bigger. The key is water quality also and I assume they are in a pond and not a tank? in a stock pond they'll get to 5lb ish ins 3-4 years.

@@seandade6315 In the lake next to the this little pool the rate is almost zero. The carp spawn and if some hatch the perch soon get rid of them which is great of the lake otherwise the biomass of spawned carp would cause issues. When I collect the spawn and pop them into this little pool, the rate seems good as the pool doesn't contain many predators (apart from bugs etc) so I always seem to get a hundred of so hatch and survive. If you collect spawn and pop them in an empty fish tank you'll get thousands that hatch but thats really hard work.

@@BaitworksTV , good work , something about those roughground fish , along with the elstow fish , where ever they ended up have ended up they have been special . I remember fishing the linch hill complex in the 80's before it was well know and fish were being seeded from roughgrounds .

I went and fished a pond thats been left for 8 years and caught some proper rare looking little mirrors fully scaled with white bellys couldnt risist bring one home for my koi pond its legal to take 18 fish for live or dead bait fishing dno about for a personal pond but o well nobody cares anyway
