Carp fishing Rigs - How to Tie The Hinged Stiff Rig Using the Albright Knot.
Welcome back to the channel. In this short video I explain how to tie the Hinged stiff rig using the Albright knot.
I find the Albright knot a lot better for the hinged stiff rig than a swivel because it is easier to gauge how high you wish the stiff section of the rig to be. When a swivel is tied onto the bottom of the stiff section, sometimes the stiff section ends up being slightly longer than intended when the knot is tightened. The knot used to tie the stiff section to the swivel can also damage the line in some instances. I also feel that the rig is a bit more sensitive and easier to balance the hook bait when tied with an Albright knot.
The Albright knot is a very strong knot if tied correctly. I can honestly say, I have never lost a fish due to the knot failing.
I hope you enjoy this short video. I would appreciate your comments on the Hinge stiff rig.
Components used to tie this rig:
15lb Korda Mouth Trap
25lb A Carpy Connection Semi Stiff Coated Hook Link in Silt Black
Small rig swivel
Size 6 Thinking Anglers Choddy Hook
Tungsten Putty
Line Stripper Tool
Rig Pullers
Braid Scissors
Lighter

But now days everyone is plugging the ronnie spinner which granted is a good rig.. but I like to stay different so on the hinge and multi rig for me

Clearly explained, making it look simple! I cheat and instead of the ABK, I crimp a small loop in the bristle and tie the braid against the loop. Not failed on me yet he said touching wood! 😜

Hi Mark, great rig demo as usual. Just one question, you state the stiff hook-link is one inch long ! It looks a lot bigger on the demo. Is this just the camera making it look bigger? I will be giving this a try. Thank you for sharing.

Hi George. Thank you for your comment. Yes, the finished stiff section is around 1" long from eye of the hook to the Albright knot. I was using quite a wide angle lens for the video so probably looks a bit bigger because of that. 👍😁🎣

Hi Mark, big fan of this rig but when testing it I noticed it tangled around the lead clip/ main line any suggestions how to prevent this. The hook link is 7” long. Possibly the wind that day and didn’t happen every time but left me guessing if it’s fishing or not.
@ACarpyConnection
@ACarpyConnection 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy. Thanks for commenting. I always use a Heli setup so I've not had much problem with tangles. I do however put a piece of rig foam over the hook. This way, the hook does not get caught up on the cast. It also pulls the hooklink straight when the rig is dropping through the water. If you are using a leadclip, try using a longer anti tangle sleeve. This will stop the rig bending back round so far and hopefully stop the Hinge section from reaching the leadclip or mainline. Try hitting the clip a bit sooner before the rig hits the water. This should straighten everything out. 👍🎣😁

Do you find the knot limits the full rotation of the rig in comparison to a swivel? Always been anxious of it not being able to rotate 180 degrees back on itself due to the materials
@ACarpyConnection
@ACarpyConnection 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley. Thank you for your comment and good question. I really cant see the knot section being any less rotational than a swivel. There are many factors that can cause a swivel not to rotate. Weed, silt , even the putty used to balance the hook bait. The stripped braid section is so supple, it will move no problem. I think its more about the curve in the stiff section. Thats what makes the hook turn. I have had hook holds using this rig where the hook has been right down inside the bottom fishes mouth. I have had to get my fingers right in the fishes mouth to get the hook out. This is , i feel due to the sensitivity of the rig . A swivel just adds more clutter and weight. I hope this answers your question. Cheers😀🎣👍

i use this for 99 percent of my fishing and have caught a ton of biguns on this . this rig doesnt really work by rotating like a swivel , the absence of the swivel and the small supple section of braid mean it can move in any direction without the reliance of a swivel to make it happen . the mechanics of this rig work because of the curve in the bristle filament causes the hook section to flip round every time it touches the bottom lip(or any surface) so the hook enters the mouth point first every time, even when picked up from the wrong angle . i find the longer the bristle section is the better it will turn ( 2 - 2.5 inches). the curve is very important so its best to steam it in so it does'nt straighten if you have to cast it a few times to get it on your spot. once you've tied one put a hookbait on and pick the rig up by the hookbait and pass it over your finger from any angle and you will see how the rig acts once sucked in . In my experienece of this rig, having an exposed section of braid as big as shown in the clip opens you up to tangles , the smaller you can make it (5mm is best) the better.

@ACarpyConnection
@ACarpyConnection 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim. Thanks for your comment. A combi rig is tied with a supple braid at the hook section. This is tied with a stiff bristle filament, hence the "Hinge Stiff Rig". I have a video on my channel showing how to tie a combi rig. 😁🎣👍
@jimbob71

@@ACarpyConnectionit can be either way its still a combi rig hinged stiff rig is made of stiff components hence hinged stiff rig
