Amazing that these tapes from 50 years ago are still available! This gives current-day Carpenters fans a real insight into how the touring shows were designed to appeal to everybody in the audience - from teens to seniors. the *Talk of The Town* was an upscale venue in London - not a big venue, but very fashionable and one of THE places to go if you were cashed-up and wanted to rub shoulders with the "in crowd" and wealthy Londoners. Celebrities were usually in the audience - not just on stage.

I love Karen's voice. She had the best natural singing voice I've ever heard. The Carpenters hit the charts while I was in my early 20s and their music surrounds many of my memories of the time. Every time I've heard her voice since she passed, I've been slammed by the tragedy of her death and the loss of that fabulous voice.

Yes,, and it's actually quite bizarre that she faced accusations of not being a very charismatic live performer, and that she and Richard, urged on by new management, felt compelled to introduce more gimmicky numbers to their later live shows in an attempt to add more "pizazz" or "oomph". I hadn't watched this particular show for a few years, and the one thing that jumped out to me when I watched it a few days, 50 years to the day after it was first transmitted, was how engaged Karen was with the audience. I also love the way that she made subtle changes of intonation and phrasing from the recorded version of the songs, meaning that we got the best of both worlds: her marvellous voice and peerless vocalisation, but at the same time an entirely fresh version of each of the songs, all of which added to the impression that she was singing "just for you".

Warrior: so do I! Richard knows what musical harmonies are. He made great arrangements for the Carpenters. Songs, which were good to hear. And Karen made those arrangements much more special with her unique, unmatchable and unforgettable voice. I never heard a voice like hers. And nobody will ever achieve her.

She had a voice like no one else that ever lived. and in this video you can see how incredible she is at the drums. Karen is the best singer, most engaging voice I've ever heard. It's so good it hurts and makes you ecstatic at the same time. She is a pure Angel. The first time I heard her voice time stood still. I can't help myself, I love her without measure. Richard created the perfect musical pedestal for the Angel. Oh yes, and her drum talent is beyond phenomenal. Both Buddy Rich and Neal Peart, two totally legendary drummers recognized her as the world's best, and their favorite drummer. I'm just baffled by her boundless talent. Peace everyone 🎉 ❤

Frank Markow drummer overplayed way too much. No room to play 64th note fills in Superstar.

@@rockdrummer4545 I completely agree with you on the overplaying....I noticed it right away and I'm not even 3 minutes into this video...it just doesn't fit the songs at all..."groove" doesn't necessarily go with "mellow" and that's certainly an example here. It's like putting a Chevy Spark engine into a Corvette body, it just doesn't "fit".

When Karen sings her own backup vocals beginning at 13:45 on Close to You, I agree with a lot of the comments about her. She DOES sound angelic.

Her voice is like silk! She could’ve sang the LA Phonebook and it would’ve been magnificent! I wonder if she ever realized her beauty and talent! I could’ve dated her In a heart beat!

only 2 singers give me the chills. Karen Carpenter and Ann Wilson. There is a lot of pain in the songs. I wished that she reslly knew how much we all loved her

I really love "Mr Guder", strange that this song did not get as much momentum as many others by them - I think it's one of their finest records. And Karen on drums is such a treat!!

How could Agnes deny her love? And just direct her pride to Richard? Astounding! Karen was a jewel of a performer, with Richard's arrangements. He was the mastermind of the Carpenters & she was the reluctant superstar. Interesting cover songs.

"The End of the World" by Skeeter Davies was always one of my favourite fifties songs and thought it couldn't be bettered until I heard Karen 's version.
