I'm a session drummer who played with alot of people in the 1970's & 1980's, I was in California when Karen was singing Rainy day's in the same studio, when she started to sing you couldn't hear a pin drop everybody was so star struck when she started to sing & I've been around alot of stars but boy oh boy this woman was fabulous and her drumming was great, R.I.P. karen I miss you and talking to you may God bless your soul.amen. 💔💔💔💔

She sounded better in person than in a studio. That is rare talent. She was a beautiful soul and such a rare talent. Her soul just shines. That she could never get the love she needed is so sad. Her voice is that of an angel.

Agreed. I find it to be sadly ironic that for all of the beautiful and romantic love ballads that she graced the world with, that she never found anyone to truly love her.

She was the best vocalist but that is lip syncing, which shows would make all musicians do bk then. Idk how they managed to get it so matched up. That’s a true talent too.
@andrewhanson5942
@andrewhanson5942 5 ай бұрын
@@LLynneM As usual, her delivery was perfect, and perfectly timed. I don't have any problem with the lip sync show, as I know is was a lot easier to pull off for the producers than trying to do it all live. I think the only one we could count on for live shows on TV in the 1960's was the Ed Sullivan show.

@@andrewhanson5942Actually, other shows back then had way more "live" acts than Sullivan. It was rare R&R acs performed live on Ed's show. merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, & other variety shows were mostly live.

As a performer, yes. Karen was a stunning virtuoso singer/drummer. The standard for performing back then was generally way higher than today, and of course there are a lot of technical aids to help these days with electronic sequencing, autotune etc. Having said that, some of today's major acts do have real talent. Coldplay and Chris Martin rock. Taylor Swift is not in the same league as Karen for performing skill, but she is solid instrumentalist, and a genius songwriter. I am a guitarist and pianist myself, so I understand playing/performing.

This is what excellence in musicianship sounds like. They are all really good, but the fact that Karen Carpenter was equally talented as a singer and a drummer is amazing. The fact that she could do both at the same time so well, put's her in a class of true elites.

I still get chills from hearing her sing AND play drums simultaneously! An irreplaceable talent..I literally stop whatever I'm doing to hear HER..not one singer in a million could do that, especially while making live sound better than studio..I'm a musician with perfect pitch, just not the voice to go with it, like she has..and believe me , no autotune, etc. can match it with her..100% talent, period..I played some of their songs in high school, still love them..

Effortless talent. She had the kind of voice that seemed like she just opened her mouth and this gorgeous and perfectly rich toned sound poured out like honey. Its so profoundly sad when such beauty is not recognized by the one who possesses it. We all have an appointed time to leave this life so there is no reason to expedite it's time of arrival. Life is so precious.

My late older cousin at age 6 used to listen to this song in the family station wagon and on the radio. Sometimes while listening, she had her elderly neighbor in mind because of her crush on him. Karen was a singer and drummer back then. I'm glad my cousin got to listen to that heavenly voice and the songs by the dynamic duo before she died.

53 years since it was released has not dampened her unique singing timbre or range, nor the 41 years (Feb. 1983) since we lost her to her own internal demons. She was only 21 here, and had a powerful, full-featured voice by 17. She should have had another 40 years of superb singing and drumming, both of her skills have been described as the finest for the female side. Her rare, lowest-register (for women) contralto voice and 3-octave range gave her a depth of emotion not heard from the usual mezzo-soprano or sopranos. It makes us feel as though she actually is experiencing what she is singing, with automatically more credibility to her. There's been no other woman singer who can do what she does in touching your emotions. Lost her in being with us at only 32, but her spirited, remarkable voice will forever be heard with that magnificent quality she enthusiastically gave everyone to enjoy as long as humans exist on the planet.

That is as pretty a song as you will hear. As melodic as anything Carole King ever did, with the same richness Carly Simon brought to her songs. Karen and Richard were successful but she deserved better than what she got in terms of recognition. Performances like the one she gave with this song remind us that God must love music because voices like Karen's are truly a gift from above. It's just a shame he wanted her back in His choir so soon. RIP young lady, you were great and not forgotten.

I can't believe Karen was underrated back then. To have her lip synching to the Studio Recording was beneath her capabilities. She was such an extraordinary performer, I couldn't tell by her synching. When the drum rolls cane in near the end of the song, her playing didn't match the score. That's when I knew. She could've done it all live to a backing track!
