Thank you for your demonstration. My husband spent several hours yesterday getting up those strips and more than half still need to be removed. I'll help him tomorrow and keep several putty knives hot on a hot plate for him. Thanks again for your resourcefulness and caring enough to share.

Thanks! That carpet tape is a beast to get up, but this technique is very fast and easy. Good luck!

I sprayed full strength Amonia on the length of the tape on the floor....scarped up the biggest part of it and put a little Wesson's oil on a paper towel and cleaned up the residue. WORKED!

Thanks for that. Had sandpaper strips on external steps today. Was going to try a hot iron on damp cloth tomorrow, and maybe a heat gun. Yours looks very effective.

Thank you for this technique. It was spot on although I used goo gone for the residue left behind.

Great demonstration! Please clarify the spray solvent/glue cleaner that you are using to clean the glue residue. The brand name would be helpful!

Hi I used a spray solvent you can buy at the local auto supply store. Just ask for spray solvent and they will show you where to find it. Thanks!

I'm just looking for alternatives to removing carpet tape because my heat gun is in the basement and I have to shovel snow to get to it. The heat gun does take a little longer but if you don't want an open flame next to your head while your working, it's worth it. Chemical wise, I refused to use goo gone mostly because it's okay for removing masking tape off of plastic, (no water or you will fog your clear plastics) So I decided, what about my automotive bug and tar remover? Darn, it's in the basement too. However I have a can of Goof Off. I've always though it was just over priced lighter fluid but it really takes the glue up in one easy application. I tried it on fresh glue and thicker left over old now black glue and it's wonderful. Lighter fluid will work and it depends on what is going to happen with the wood after wards. It does not take the patina away as much as Goof off does, and it works about the same in time, maybe little longer. I used a coarse kitchen scrubber pad saved for these type of jobs. Often you can find it glued to the back of sponges. Paper towel and your done. To qualify: I am removing 3M carpet tape that has been hiding under a rug for at least 20 years.

For the solvent, I used Goo Be Gone. It remove the sticky residue without a harsh solvent smell.

Thankyou very much for the demo I've been trying for at least 2 years to remove my tape. Do you think it will work with a heat gun as I don't have a blow torch

A heat gun will work but it will take longer. You can get a propane torch like the one I used at any hardware store for $15 on the low end to $35 with the automatic lighter.

It ruins the floor, glue you have still there. Get GOO GONE . Small bottle, pour little bit over the tape, wait 5 minutes. Lift it and pull it in one piece, oil in it conditions the floor. Just wash the floor.. I just did it. Easy breezy beautiful Cover girl. Lol.

As you can see in the video the floor is not damaged at all. My guess is you never even tried it. But I will try the Goo Gone for the next time. Thanks
