► In this video I will show you how I take care of my Mixed Carpeting Plants foreground in my IAPLC 2019 60x50x40cm scape.
Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' can be a weed and will easily overgrow other carpeting plants, specially such as slow growing Marsilea crenata or hirsuta sp.
To maintain a nice looking mixed carpet and not just everything Micranthemum Monte Carlo, you have to do some maintenance once in a while.
Watch my video to learn how I remove excess Monte Carlo from the Marsilea section and which tools are best for Micranthemum Monte Carlo Care.
Cheers
Jurijs

First I want to say thank you for your informative videos! I love you aquascaping style. I am having a tough time deciding on what to do for my first carpet. Did not have much education on carpeting plants. Saw this at my local store under a different name. At first it was hard for me to tell if it is that or not. But now after two weeks, it just grew a thin, yet beautiful carpet and it definetly is this species. Love this plant.

@@JurijsJutjajevs the carpet is now around 1.5 cm thick and all the new growth looks the same. It was sold under the name Mircanthemum Mircathemoides, which grows vertically. Mine grows flush to the substrate with roots coming out from each node, creating a strong carpet. Does not look like dwarf baby tears either.

ok i'll try using the tenellum instead of hairgrass =) thanks so much for the advice i really appreciate it... if i please ask one thing though..? how long would you use powersand special and amazonia before replacing it? i'm rescaping my 60p after 18 months and just wondering if i should keep the substrate or replace it? (was previously a "medium" tech scape, c02 but pretty low/medium light) no carpet just crypts and very pink h'ra in the back. Eh. I still can't grow monte carlo at all. It always melts even if I've a base of Tropica Soil. I find glosso to be *much* easier to grow than monte carlo. For me it's mostly eleocharis parvula (pussila) and glossostigma. I've had very little luck with other carpets. At least when it comes to fast spreading carpets. Marsileas sort of trudge on in my tanks but never spread that much. Same with lilaeopsis species.

I’m struggling to get Monte Carlo to grow for me and your issue is that it grows too well for you! First world problems! 😆

Most plants are easy once you meet all their needs. Most plants prefer soft, slightly acidic water, nutrient rich substrate, CO2 injection and decent light.

@@JurijsJutjajevs thanks Jurijs 🙏 I have all those ingredients and have been trying for nearly 3 years, but somehow can never get the right balance! I’ve had the tank looking semi-ok for some periods, but then it goes through another phase of algae or melt down. I’ve resorted to getting rid of the stems, turning the lights down and sticking to Java fern, crypts, and anubias!
