I love this that you can use the Sena too and hear the voice for directions for the maps so great i orderdered this one 2 weeks ago so i guess i have it soon in Norway where i live and i gonna use it on my ATV and on my new Honda 500 NX who arive next week , cant wait for this, very nice video thx Keith!🙂

For navigation I use an iPad mini in an Otterbox case on a Ram mount, running Gaia GPS and Memory Maps. It’s linked to a Garmin Glo 2 GPS receiver. Works a treat.

I do the same but not sure if the gps is connected or not to the GLO. Can’t switch the gps on an iPad. How do you do it? Mine is an iPad mini 2

You put the Garmin Glo into connect/search mode (whatever it’s called) then turn on Bluetooth on the iPad mini. You should see the Glo appear on the iPad list of available devices and if it doesn’t automatically connect touch Glo in the list to connect. BTW my iPad doesn’t have GPS so this is my only option. If yours has GPS maybe you need to disable it to get the Glo to connect? Just guessing

My main concern with putting my phone on the bars is the vibrations. They can be pretty extreme and I'd rather not risk the image stabilisation or focus systems in my phone's camera.

Let the audio output app in your carpuride set to IPlayAuto NOT BT trans. Works perfectly for me. Thx for the review.

When you say "hey Siri" it almost sounds like the Sena is trying to respond first. I wonder if it might work better if you disabled voice commands on the Sena.

I've found with all voice commands through the sena systems (I have a sena 20s evo) that wind noise will cause problems. I find shutting visors and slowing down helps a lot.

They also have a model that includes the adaptor for the bmw nav prep. Hard to tell if it uses the existing pins for power though. Maybe the 11mm ram mounts stop thieves with socket sets…

Phone calls seem to degrade when you go through a third party device. I have the same with my Sena SRL via BMW TFT to my Galaxy S22. Sena to Galaxy direct is crystal clear, especially the voice so It's probably a universal thing not just the Carpuride. Thanks for the vid!

i use garmin 680t as it is just great , it needs no signal and maps are an image thus it just works anywhere - i am interested in a bigger screen one day so i have to ask as i know nowt about these things, does it/the apps use your mobile signal to present map data? so if your phone signal dies the mapping from gaia dies or do you load gpx routes in and it stores them locally in the HD?

The catch with having phone in pocket will be power usage, when mirroring to the screen, and especially if you start using gps, that usually uses a lot of power. Maybe be ready with a small power pack also in your pocket

The issue with Gaia is the capacity to download the maps to the device. While you have signal it will load as you go. To have the maps for off-line, especially for a big ride, can soon exceed the device storage.

@brendenvosper7772 Are you able to confirm that the GAIA maps and related content are actually downloaded onto the Carpuride or rather stay on the phone? I am just at this very stage of updating my Bluetooth and navigation gear. Already use GAIA.

I had a similar CarPlay setup on my bike, lasted a few hours then shit itself. It was supposed to have 12 months warranty, got stuffed around for months and the replacement unit never turned up.

I’ve just bought the 5 inch which is not 5 inch the screen images don’t go edge to edge so really bit disappointed it’s works out smaller then my iPhone !!

The only issue is with CarPlay running it eats you battery. No issue on short trips but all day with Gaia running you will need to power the phone as well.

Guess I’m confused about the not enough storage for offline maps? I was under the assumption that offline map storage was all in the phone app and storage and the screen just mirrored what was on your phone screen ? Tell me if I am correct? Thx

great question. I've done no research into the mapping apps apart from basic online use so I will check this out when I look at Gaia, OSM etc

Yes, everything is phone-based, so just save your offline maps on your phone and the Carpuride will just mirror whatever is on your phone. I saved the whole Trans-America Trail Gaia route/maps on my phone for an upcoming trip in August, and the unit just displays it fine when the phone has no connectivity. Overall great setup, my favorite so far, especially for the price compared to a GPS unit.

@@keithjob great no hype review as usual. t’s very timely as I am thinking about one of these mirror units and didn’t believe there as any issue with Gaia, MAPS.ME etc. The fact that nothing has to be loaded onto the unit is it’s strongest feature. All the off line map data is resident on your phone as another comment has indicated. The screen merely mirrors your phone.

@@adv_spokes So far, it seems very solid and I'm not expecting having any issues with the unit shaking itself to death. Waterproof and dust proof with its IP67 rating. I have not tested on a long trip yet, but I washed my bike with the pressure washer with the unit mounted and it did fine with moderate sprays. I've had it in the rain too, no issues. I took my bike on Jeep trails recently, very rocky and bouncy on a hot day. No issues all day in the dust and no issues with vibrations. All in all, it is definitely more robust than my phone, and a lot cheaper if it fails.

Shouldn’t need to pair your headset to the Carpuride. That’s why I returned mine and went with CHIGEE

My understanding is they get you to do that so you can play music directly from the Carpuride device. I assume (without owning one) that if you left your comms device paired to your phone you'd still be able to play/pause music, answer calls etc. from the Carpuride device.

It's possible he just didn't unpair the intercom from his phone first. But the phone > Carpuride pairing would be extremely easy, I'd bet.
