keeping your leader with hookbait on whilest smashing it into the opposite bank...what a pro xD
@MarkPitchers3 жыл бұрын
I knew someone would make this comment... If you control the cast and feather the lead down rather than drilling it into the earth’s core, then the lead just gently comes to rest on the ground and the hook and hooklink are fine. But if you’re not a competent enough a caster to do this, or if the bank you’re landing on is rocky or gravelly and not the soft mud I was casting on then yes you should be taking the rig off to avoid damage. I still always check the hook point every time though just in case.

Our club rules would never allow an angler with a baited hook in the water and not being next to your rod. Sod’s law you set up a rig like that and it roars off whilst you’re making your way back and the fish could get snagged. Margins by nature are where most snags are. Either cast to the margin or drop it next to your swim.

Why would you cast your rig over lol absolutely crazy 🤣
@MarkPitchers3 жыл бұрын
What’s so crazy about casting a lead just 20 yards over to a patch of soft mud where the lead will take the impact and the rig/hook point won’t be damaged? If you feather the cast down rather than drilling it into the earth’s core, then the lead just gently comes to rest on the ground and the hook and hooklink are fine. But if you’re not a proficient enough caster to do this, or you’re casting greater distances, or onto hard ground then yes you should be taking the rig off to avoid damage. PS; I still always check the hook point every time though
@andrewrush51253 жыл бұрын
Surely this is illegal, as soon as you put your hook bait in you're fishing, but no where near your rods. Aren't you supposed to be within a certain distance form your rods if they're in the water?
@nate85513 жыл бұрын
Correct Andrew this practice should not be encouraged
@MarkPitchers3 жыл бұрын
@@nate8551 I like to thing anglers can practice common sense in this situation, and deem what is too far to be away from their rods. At my own fishery I recommend this tactic as a way of presenting a bait to very pressured line shy fish.

How to be the only angler on the lake maybee
@MarkPitchers3 жыл бұрын
Well, it’s shown that a lot of people watching this are incapable of feathering a cast and gently dropping a rig on the far bank, and that they are way too paranoid about blunting their hooks..

@@Divingbigpete you mean the only angler apart from the other angler who was there..

@@MarkPitchers ohh salty 😉, look I don’t for one minute think I’m at your level. But surly it makes sense to take the rig off, takes a matter of seconds to remove and put back on. I’ve seen many top anglers remove the rig before casting to the far bank.
@MarkPitchers3 жыл бұрын
@@010JRock010 if I’m casting further (it was only 20 yards in this instance) or landing on hard or stony/rocky ground then I would have removed the rig first, but there was no need in this instance 😊

How many people are going to cast in the trees lol. Not for me I would like to see the scientific evidence of casting to that area, apose to the washing line trick. Each to there own. Good fishing though.
@Divingbigpete3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately for the rest of us we wouldn't have the lake closed off just for us so somebody would be fishing to where ur casting so this method is pretty much useless for the normal angler

What if someone wanted to fish from the swim 10 ft to the left of where you placed your rig then surely that margin would be theres not yours??
@MarkPitchers3 жыл бұрын
@@Divingbigpete I fish this tactic a lot over the course of a season, on day ticket waters and syndicate lakes, there’s frequently opportunities to do it. There was only one other angler on the lake and no more anglers booked on. I’m sure people can use their common sense on when this tactic can and cannot be applied.
