CarPro DQuartz Go - From Polishing to Coating Application

Thanks to Avi of CarPro for sending me DQuartz Go to test out before it was available to the public. This is the consumer version of DQuartz which has become a success for CarPro. DQuartz Go is a nano-diamond quartz coating that is designed to be a one layer coating that can stand up to the harshest conditions as well as increasing the paint hardness to protect from wash induced marring.

Very interesting Mike! I ordered mine and will be testing soon hopefully. One thing that seems confusing is they mention “Keep out of the elements for 48 hours for best performance and durability.” But you had a discussion with Avi and he seems to say the car can get wet after 12 hours? So basically, once done, wait 12 hours and the car can in theory be driven in the elements including raining? Or would you absolutely need to apply Release if you plan on releasing the vehicle 12 hours after the coating application?

Hi Pan. Very good question. It seems that each box is coming with the little leaflet in the box along with the instructions. The leaflet seems to be an update. I reached out to Avi and I hope this helps. 12 hours is the dry time and full hardness in 48 hours. He did confirm that the coating can be exposed to the elements after 12 hours. With ir lights you can release right after baking it. For anti abrasion it is 7 days to get the maximum strength. As far as Release, from my personal opinion it would probably be a good idea as a precaution. But not required. You are going to love it. I think even more so than UK 3.0.

I always applaud maturity and positivity in communications. As you know I really like CarPro products and their CQUK 3.0 had taken so many awards on my channel over the years, until the last awards edition, where other coatings started surpassing it in ease of application, one layer only, less curing time, etc. So an update in their lineup was needed. I am curious about DQuartz GO, but I’m surprised they went the diamond nanofusion way as they don’t normally jump into new technologies. I am hoping they are working on a CQUK 4.0 perhaps.

Probably the first video i really seen the pxe 80 at work. Good video Mike. The cerakote coating looks very interesting. It sweats and doesn't harden like most coatings..i'm sure you know.

Top it with sic or gliss. It won’t bead for long because the silica content is so high. The coating is still protecting but it just won’t bead well

Just a tip for anyone without the scangrip, a simple whiteboard or even a blank piece of paper can be very useful to find any high spots

I have an even better tip: tape your light source to an empty milky container (empty 1 galon of Absolute for example) an turn it on and have fun with diffused light high spot seeker for poorboys :)

@@davida7713easy to work with. The difference is flash times. If you like the longer flash times then DQuartz with a smooth wipe off. If you like short flash times the mohs Evo would be the one to go with.

Thanks. Yeah it did not harden up as much as I thought. To me Cquartz UK hardens much more. I recall at one point when Gtechniq stated that CSL hardens up on paint but not an applicator but that sounded a bit odd to me.

⁠@@MikeGDetailingDifferent coating technologies have different effects on applicators. Not all paint coatings cause applicators to harden. You have SiO2, TiO2, nano diamond, SiC, polysilazane, reduced graphene oxide, etc. So many different coating technologies. Traditional high solids SiO2 coatings make the applicator harden after curing. That’s because there are hard curing ingredients in the formula. When you look at a polysilazane type coating like Gyeon Mohs EVO, the applicator doesn’t harden after curing, and yet we know that’s a great coating. No doubt about it. So basically an applicator hardening or not doesn’t correlate to coating performance or durability. All it tells us is an indication as to differences in the formulas used. 👍🏻

@@PanTheOrganizer Indeed. The polysilazane/siloxane is also just the resin. The SiO2, diamond, etc. coatings are solids mixed into the resin and as you point out, some coatings don't have hard solids. Mohs Evo is a fluoro-modified resin where they react it with a fluorinated substance and a catalyst to convert some of the surface groups to CF bonds. This should give it better oleophobicity than most other coatings and possibly stay cleaner/less "clogged". That's why I used it on my car. So far so good. I really wish we had better objective testing and chemist input in the detailing community to help filter through a lot of the nonsense. Your video with Chris Gallahar was one of my favorites.

I’m patiently awaiting my kit! How many suedes come with it? Im trying to coat two cars and idk if I can if i’m changing to a new suede every two panels

i would recommend using autofiber style applicators and move away from the suedes. The good thing is that has a long flash time so you can coat multiple panels at once. There is 5 suedes in the box.

Thanks. From an application standpoint point DQuartz Go will be easier to wipe off. Armour Quartz will have a slight grab on initial wipe but smoother on the follow up wipe. I can say that Armour Quartz is a good coating as DQuartz Go is still new. But CarPro has success with their coatings. Honestly can’t go wrong with either one. For towels I use either the edgeless 300 or the CarPro 2face towels for a final wipe.

I noticed you use the same sides (number 1 faced down) of the white and yellow towels for both sides of the roof when wiping off the residue of the ceramic coating. How often do you switch sides of the towels? Can you do one whole panel with that system before switching to a different side of the towels?

Any update on the coating? I’ve been using this on some customer cars (around 7-8) So far I haven’t received any complaints but I did realize it doesn’t harden as much on the applicator. I am not sure if this coating will be better/longer lasting than Cquartz at this point. What are your thoughts?

I have not used it as much as you so I can not comment how well it will perform long term. I did see this video posted up on the CarPro IG channel showcasing its ability to protect the surface from marring. You could try a spray coating first and see how it goes. Maybe something like the Adams spray coating.

Can Dquartz Go be topped with SiC for added slickness? Also i just bought a brand new car still has delivery wrap on it. Do i need to polish the car still or should i just wash and iron decon before applying the coating. Thanks

Yes you can top it with SiC after 1 hour. As far as polishing asses the paint to see if you are happy with the finish. If you need to polish it then do a light polish. Don’t forget the panel wipe as well.

My coating bottle birth date was 20/11/23 (dd/mm/yy) with a 2023 security lable. Yours is a 2024 with 30/11/23. Interesting 😊. The leaflet must be an update from the instructions as its dated 2024 and would be expensive to reprint the instructions hence the leaflet. Wow that has really rainbowed well, especially on the left side. I think I might not use a topper, I might go wild and use Gtechiq C2 after a few months, although I do have Reload 2.0, actually, I'll use that but might switch to C2 late next year. The Hydrophobic properties look mesmerising 🤘. The look of it on black paint looks sweet. With the mit in the packaging, it comes with 5 suede cloths, and the instructions says to switch out a suede after 2 panels, so my question is is one orange mit going to be OK for the entire car? Or do you think the mit is for an area you'd struggle with the application block? The mit really confused me because there is only one mit and not 5 to switch out.

Avi mentioned it'll go onto any surface except glass as noted but also PPF, I'm guessing anything flexible would probably have issues later down the line, so I'd apply it to something solid and install a PPF specific coating

@@79blustonewith the long flash time you could coat multiple panels and move around pretty fast. The mitt is a coating saver style as well and it works really well. Since it does not harden up that much you should be good with just one mitt. I do not use the suede and block anymore as I use the Autofiber coating saver style applicators. I just used it for the demonstration since they are cheaper to dispose of. CarPro does sell a 5 pack of the mitts as well. You are correct that it is not recommended for glass, although you would be ok to use it on the side and rear glass. CarPro now has GForce for the front glass. Since you have PPF, I would say you would probably be ok to use it on PPF but CarPro has Skin which I have used before and works well on PPF and Vinyl.

Thanks for a great video. Im getting a nei car in august and i have ben ising cquarts uk 3.0 on a fem fars, and inntil i saw this one was planning to do that again. The plan was 2 coats, then gliss. Gliss just because I have it. What do you think about 2 diamond and gliss?

@@laffefar that is a good plan. I found DQuartz to not be as hydrophobic as Cquartz UK 3.0. The other option is to top DQuartz with SiC as it’s more durable than Gliss.

Tough question. I have and always will be a CarPro fan. Although DIY makes good coatings and the 5 year is nice, I would probably choose DQuartz Go. There is always that thing I have when reaching for anything CarPro. I am not sure if a 30 ml bottle will be available I suspect there will be. I will find out.

@@ONI1013. you can use the same maintenance with dquartz. I recently polished off dquartz. I was not entirely happy with its hydrophobic behavior. Be sure to let it sit for the recommended flash time as dquartz will not behave in performance in a good way. It will look lack luster.

It will not last forever. Seal it up tight and you can use again within a few months. I know with Cquartz UK 3.0 CarPro was saying within 6 months if opened.

That is a hard question to answer with so many good coatings. I am always testing new coatings. If you are looking for a coating that has stood out for 2023 it would be Armour Detail Supply Quartz and then the DIY Detail coatings.

@@MikeGDetailing I applied Armour wheel last month and it's legit. About 10x better than Diamond Wheels in terms of washing off brake dust. I have Mohs Evo on my car and it's nice, but if it starts to weaken I will be tempted to try Armour Quartz.
