From my comparisons of several drying towels, it all comes down to weight. All70/30 towels absorb the typical 5-7X their weight. Weigh the towel and multiply. That is it. Often manufacturers will list the gsm per sq meter. Measure the towel and figure out the weight of that particular towel and you will know how much water it will hold.

I've used the dreadnaught and gauntlet and both are sub-par when compared to the Griot's PFM drying towel. The PFM will leave the surface of the car almost completely dry for the whole time I am drying, whereas the others either don't pick up all the water immediately or start to leave streaking after the first couple of panels. I was actually disappointed at the Dreadnaught, it just doesn't feel as soft as the other two towels. I also have the HF Grant's drying towel I got for 6 or 7 bucks. It does just as well as the gauntlet but it's a little more resistant to sliding across the surface because the fibers are more tightly woven.

I have a " BOWDENS " towel. Australian brand so not sure if it's sold in the States. Around $40 aud, so currently $28ish usd. much smaller at 36 x 40. But phenomenal drying abilities. My old falcon is 20' long and it dries very well. the odd streak & drip. But I go around with a dryer afterwards. Then maguires quick detail. Very fast from start to finish. Looks like the bigger towels might do even better. But after the whole car is done, I can't wring out a single drop, but takes a good 2hrs to dry. Great vid so thank you ;)

Honestly after a certain size it seems very counterproductive, not only is it heavier to carry, but you have to be more careful to not drag it on the ground or get it in the wheel wells, it will make it drag harder along the panels, etc. The smallest towel that is slightly longer than half the width of your roof would be great so long as it can hold enough water. You'd need to do an M or W-pattern wipe across the hood, but that wouldn't take long. If you needed to give it a quick wring before doing the hood that would cost you like 3 sec, but it would still end up faster and easier on a big vehicle or if doing several jobs because you'd get less tired due to the towel being lighter. Also I bet you could get your time down to 60 sec with all of em if you did half the roof, then the side windows, then the doors before moving, but 90 is still great.
@johng7537 ай бұрын
I have six brands of drying towels and the Griots extra large PFM Edgeless drying towel is my favorite. When you pull it across the panel it does not leave any water behind. It’s incredibly soft and thirsty - 1120gsm. The construction is long looped fibers that are similar to twisted loop towels but the Griots is softer.

So I usually have to go over half the car twice.

I have the gauntlet towel, it's terrible. Even after washing it with recommended detergent and hang drying, all it does it push water around. Only seems to do half decent if I pre-soak it in a pail of water first and wring it out. I always run a self clean cycle in my washer before cleaning my microfibre towels, so it isn't residual soap (don't use fabric softeners at all). I don't know what the issue is with this particular towel when all my others are perfectly fine.
@imjoshv7 ай бұрын
Do you use a drying aid or something with protection when using the towel? That can seal the towel which means it will want to repel water ad not absorb it
@misplacedcaper96627 ай бұрын
@imjoshv Never. The only drying aid I use is elbow grease. Five minutes to dry my Challenger with the gauntlet. It's only this towel, even my box of cheap costco brand 12x12's do a better job. I thought maybe it's because the cars are waxed (TW ceramic+graphene paste), but it's cured for at least a week before I maintenance wash again, and my other towels aren't affected. Maybe I just got a dud.
@Pittsburgh-4128 ай бұрын
The worst thing for drying towels is not the ground. Its the drying aids and spray waxes that totally ruin drying towels. Some spray on waxes like Turtle wax flex ceramic spray wax goes on while wet. And it does not wash out even with p&s rags to riches

I've used all the TRC towels, Dreadnought etc and these towels are literally insane. These are the most absorbent towels I've ever used. They have a 1600 gsm towel called the DTX6, and a 2000 gsm towel called the DTXX. Both are 75/25 blend. If you're interested, I could probably have him send you one of each to test! Those towels are pretty popular on TikTok, but haven't made it on KZbin yet.
