Ah yes, the Ford Granada... one of the finest boxes to ever box.

They were what the usual American car was back in the day. I ran one of that vintage over 200K miles with a 250cid 6 cylinder. Totally indestructible drive line. Sold it for , IIRC, $300 and it was still around 2+ years later
@Juggernaut30Ай бұрын
In germany we also had a Ford Granada. But it was a complete different car. It was known for it`s toughness, durabilitry. Today they are choosen as one of the best demolition derby cars because they can take a lot of beaten.

These Fox body sedans were extremely lightweight and flimsy. You could literally pry open the door frame from its opening with your bare hands.
@trixie9867Ай бұрын
doesn't look to safe - but these were lightweight inexpensive cars - fairmont and zephyr similar - i think tiny LTD too
@ouch1011Ай бұрын
So, inexpensive gives it an excuse to be a deathtrap?

@@ouch1011 Wasn't Ford meeting government fuel economy numbers? Light weight cars like this crumple like a tin can. A mercedes w123 was $26,000 and this was maybe $4000 - i suppose its no difference than poor people today eating bad food that will give them cancer because they can't afford organic or grass fed free range.

It looks like 67 Lincoln lol What a trip.

The seat belt slid off the drivers shoulder allowing the driver to face slam the top of the dashboard, not good.

These cars rode good for a lightweight vehicle. Putting the transmission above the catalytic converter was stupid. Passenger side of engine compartment was very cramped, with the V6.
@draggonsgateАй бұрын
I ran two of these in demo derbies... weak transmissions and a really weak trunk area. The trunk would collapse flat to the ground... imagine a wedding dress train... awful cars, 6 cylinder was bulletproof though!

Wait,you were wearing a wedding dress while in the middle of a demolition derby, and the train fell out of the trunk????

How fast were they going in the crash test...? 30mph? 😮
@Mike81111Ай бұрын
This was 35mph. That was typical speed back then in these tests.
@htimsidАй бұрын
In the first ten seconds of the video impact speed is shown twice.

@Mike81111 never been a good derby car for good reason. They do some real funky things when hit from aside or rear impact as well. Kinda like the 90s Taurus... they wanna bend up behind front seat and then plow in rear lol
@Mike81111Ай бұрын
A pillar bends too much considering that this is 35mph full overlap test. 40mph 40 percent overlap test would crush the passenger compartment like a pancake. But this is 70s car so I guess this test result was ok.

I’m no expert but that doesn’t look to good to me.

Luckily I never crashed my 81 Granada. Good car tho
@australiantruckspotting8883Ай бұрын
These full frontal tests into an immovable object are a waste of money. Very few crashes in real life are like this.
@willc5512Ай бұрын
But the ones that ARE same results.💀 Falling asleep, leaving road hitting pole or embankment will do all sorts of nasty stuff to the structural bits of a car!
@milfordcivic675514 күн бұрын
Some are much worse actually.
@sooverit5529Ай бұрын
The seatbelts were worthless. It's like they weren't even there.
@milfordcivic675514 күн бұрын
Most people never used seatbelts then. I never wore mine until I had a car with motorized shoulder belts in 1992. After that I always wore it.
