Much appreciated Nico! If I had to pick, I'd lean towards non-mag as my favorite! Definitely tricky with a narrow track though! We will have to widen it is all to accommodate 😁

Awesome video Ryan, lots of helpful tips without spending $$$. Like you, I don't do anything to my cars that I can't reverse, but the tips you gave can really help out. I really like the livery on that McLaren, it looks sharp! I take the magnets out of all my cars, so a tech tip for removing that rear magnet; just pop the motor out, get a very small flat head screw driver or use your knife and pry out the top of either side of that clip, and the clip will pop right out (and sometimes go flying if you don't hold a finger over it lol). Thanks for posting!

SO appreciated Dave!! I am still new to this whole tuning thing, but I love doing basic setup stuff like you said without heavily modifying/ruining original design and on little to no money, just racing what you got! I really do and always have preferred magless racing, as I did with the old Parma cars at the big hobby shops as a kid with just added weights, which is eventually how I want to run each car!! I appreciate the inside scoop!! I was almost having a hard time finding a tool with an edge small enough to get inside that little plastic clip, that little bugger fits in there pretty flush!😅 Popping the motor out I can see as definitely being the best way to go about it cus there is barely any space to work with there. I appreciate you taking the time to hang out!

Hei, nice video. I really recomend you to make the braids "simple" instead of double that came from the factory. Really help a lot getting your front end more low for a better stability allowing you driving even more fast in the turns.👌🏁💨
@SlotCarHooligan
@SlotCarHooligan 10 ай бұрын
That's actually a really good recommendation, thank you for the advice!! I never really knew which was preferred, but I always liked the single braids as well myself and that makes a lot of sense thinking about it now. I really appreciate you taking the time out to check out my video. Best to ya! Ryan

I just found your channel, Dont give up on Magless you will find it to be a lot of fun learning to drive each car. Also move your start/finsh line to the end of your straight this way the car should be settled on the track and your laps will register. Keep up the good work

I appreciate it Gene, thanks so much for taking the time out to watch! I truly love magless as it feels more like you are "driving" the car and is more fun, in my opinion. I thank you for the positive motivation and I promise to do so! That actually is a very valid point about moving the start/finish line forward, especially with my unorthodox layout currently - I really appreciate the tip! I may be changing my layout soon as I just got a pit lane in! But, we will see how brave I get 😂 Best to ya, and also subbed your channel man, awesome stuff!

Lol no worries man!! I love non mag, takes me back to my Parma days at the locals! Definitely need extended borders for each turn. I plan on doing that very soon so I can really start to enjoy it. Thanks for checking it out Paul!

Try adding some strips of lead to the pods that run down the sides of the chassis. This should make the care more grounded and allow it to take the turns with less drift.

Thanks for the tip Mark, I can't wait to give it a go!! I definitely need some lead that I can trim down for weights. I used to have some in my tackle box with all my old Parma cars, but have no idea where it might be now. Thanks for stopping by to hang out!! Much appreciated man.🙏👍

1/24 are so much fun!! I have been expanding my borders recently so I can support their needs. I really love the more realistic weight and behavior. I have to say, I have never tried them non mag. I will test it out when I am brave enough, with urethane tires, as that seems like it would be really important on the heavier cars. I really love non mag as well. Thanks for watching and sharing! I love to hear everyone's experiences and preferences. 👍

Great video about basic tuning of the car. I'm also dipping my toes in magless slot cars. Question, some parts of your trac kare painted, do you notice difference in grip levels and what paint is used? Subbed your channel ;-)
@SlotCarHooligan
@SlotCarHooligan 10 ай бұрын
I really appreciate it, thanks for checking it out!! I am looking to paint the other pieces this summer once it gets warmer out to match again, as I had added another track to the layout late in the season (it's actually 3 track sets combined with some leftover pieces). I used a mix of flat black, white, and primer gray Krylon if I do recall. I do notice a "slight" improvement in the bends where it is painted, but definitely not like you would get with a bit of textured paint. I didn't want to get that aggressive though because I did want the magless cars to have that opportunity to "flow" when I decide to have a go with one from time to time! Subbed as well!! 🙏👍

What grit of sandpaper do you use for the tru tires?
@SlotCarHooligan
@SlotCarHooligan 8 ай бұрын
Hey man!! I usually use what I got lying around, but it really depends on each tire compound. For the Carrera compound (being harder and more durable), I like to use about 220 grit to start (gently) and get the worst of it done. I then move on to upwards of about 400 grit to refine any smaller high/low spots until I get it to my liking. If you are running soft compound tires, you may want to step up to finer first to make sure you don't overheat the tire compound. Hope that helps! Remember to go slow and give the tires some time to cool in between!

Great track layout but you really should mount shoulders along the entire track, at least on the outside of turns and on one or two track sections after the turns. When you do that, you will be ready to take advantage of running the cars without magnets. For my track, I created 3 car categories: both magnets in place, just the middle magnet in place and no magnets. My favorite category is with just the middle magnet in place because the cars can speed up at a decent 60% to 70% speed setting and they drift a lot. It's a lot of fun... See my videos on how to equalize the cars behavior for each category. Keep playing and making videos🙂
@SlotCarHooligan
@SlotCarHooligan 10 ай бұрын
Pedro!! Thanks for taking the time out to check it out and for the subscribe man, I will def check out your channel! The categories you set up sounds like a blast! I can see why the middle magnets only would be a heck of a lot of fun. I love how quickly they accelerate without having all the magnetic downforce. I appreciate the tip! I am working on possibly creating a different layout and want borders, as you said on the outside of all the corners. I am going to try doubling up some foam board and making borders with those (we will see how it works out) cus the Carrera ones can be quite expensive! Keep enjoying the hobby man and appreciate the chat!!! 😄👍🙏

No magnets seems not as fun.
@SlotCarHooligan
@SlotCarHooligan 11 ай бұрын
Hahaha this can be a valid perspective!! Faster laps usually are most fun, which magnets give a big advantage. Slower laps can be even more fun (especially if you have a wide enough track) as the car will handle more realistically and be more a challenge, if you're into that kinda thing. Otherwise, it is very hard for magless to beat times posted with magnets, everything else being equal. Thanks for stopping by and I enjoyed the comment! Best to ya!

@@SlotCarHooligan True, but GT2, GT3, and GT4 cars don't "drift" corners purposely. Although it looks cool to us, fishtailing is NOT something the GT world cup community wants to achieve. It's like taking the magnets out of an F1 car and putting it on a rally circuit. Magnets means more speed and handling, no magnets mean make up your own kind of racing which is less realistic. Anyway, I'm hungry, think I'll go make a sandwich...
@SlotCarHooligan
@SlotCarHooligan 11 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right!! GT cars are meant for grip and any loss of traction equals slower lap times. There are some occasions where drifting a turn could actually lead to a quicker lap...but these wouldn't include cars with developed aero like GT class cars. Smooth and steady is fast! Hope your sandwich was extra tasty! Thanks again for the chat man! I was actually just watching some GT3 class recaps last night. Awesome class of cars. 😂@@klyddkross

@@klyddkross You are right. Modern race cars - whether they are endurance LMPs or Hypercars, Formula 1 cars or GT cars, don't drift around curves, due to downforce. Magnets only try to simulate that. Real racing is not like what you see watching The Fast & The Furious. 🙂Now if you're running rally cars, or older cars, fishtailing can be fun...
