I can't agree with two of the judges on this one. You know, Pat Benatar is one of the most difficult singers to emulate because of her incredible range and style of music. However, I am very impressed by this old performance from Carrie. In my opinion, she did a fantastic job and nailed it as well as anyone ever could! She can sing just about anything and do it well.

First she killed it with Alone by Heart, then this Pat Benatar classic. I have loved her since the first televised audition. She also reawakened my favorite show. I had lost interest the previous 2yrs. I was ready to accept that after Kelly Clarkson's voice and success tgat the format couldnt be replicated consistently and that we had seen the best already. I kinda expected the talents to continue to dewindle for another couple seasons till eventually closing the doors voluntarily, or being cancelled. Then season 4 started! 🥰🌹

The reason this song seemed a little of for Carrie wasn’t bc of her voice but bc her timing was a rushed and I felt she wasn’t at the same tempo as the beat of the music. It’s a fast paced power Ballard that leaves very little time to catch your breath to project those big powerful notes. This type of performance usually takes weeks of practice but in this case they rushed her into it and she did a great job . I love her fierceness and grit she puts in to her vocals . She just has to stay on top of the beat and tempo to prepare for the timing and breathes she needs to seem more effortless. And she ended up learning a lot from her performances on idol and becoming one of the best vocalists of all time ❤️

Rock singing is a good deal harder to do. Country singing is not that demanding. That's why a lot of mainstream gravitates toward country music. Rock singers have a much more involved form of music. Many rock singers still sound great, decades later. While many older aged country stars can't even croak out their three chord tune in the original key.
