As Carrie said, when you are on Idol, you are a nobody. Meaning nobody knows who you are. Before Idol, nobody heard of Carrie. Main reason, Carrie won, is her powerful voice. Remember Carrie got everybody attention with her vocals.

I remember her personal footage on Idol talking about milking cows and helping on the farm .. she had been in talent contests since age 14 and NEVER won, gave up & pursued journalism in college then just happened to see the auditions would be in St. Louis - hometown population? 3500 yep 2 zeros one stop light. Can you imagine how scared she was? we are talking EVERYTHING changing. Her parents raised her with good values it was her turn and I am immensely proud of the woman she became

Both Carrie and current Idol judges both said. Winning Idol means nothing in the music business. All it does, is open the door. It is up to the individual to take care of the rest. As Luke Bryan said, music business isn't going to call any contestant winner. You get a contract to one album as winner, but it is up to them to use it to get there career going. The main reason, Carrie has done so well. Carrie is just that good.

I think Carrie is the best singer to come from Idol and she's definitely the most successful. Simon predicted she would sell more records than any other Idol and she has done that by selling 4 million more records than her nearest competitor, Kelly Clarkson. Hers and Vince Gill's rendition of How Great Thou Art brings me to tears every time I hear it! Keep up the great work Carrie!

I can tell when someone is going to win when they inspire me to download the songs they are singing and/or listen to the original artist's rendition of the song and/or make me fall in love with the song. Carrie Underwood holds the record for the most songs I've downloaded because she sang/introduced the song to me. Especially when it's not a genre I regularly listen to. And I quite like how she made the version her own and often love her version better than the original.
