Carrie, I gotta thank you for showing us fellow mid-sized girls how you style your clothes. Every time you pick up a crop top I think how cute it looks on you, but I never thought it’d work on me. Until earlier this week when I found one I liked and decided to try it on for fun. I was amazed at how good I felt in it! So thank you for showing us that mid-sized girls can have fun with fashion! I never would’ve tried it for myself if I didn’t watch you.

I'm from Japan and it is very difficult to get affordable vintage clothing, especially in plus sizes. most used clothing in Japan is often at a 'premium price', and there are really few stores that cater to people on a tight budget. Anyway, I'm so glad you had a great time in Japan. x

Japan is one of the largest buyers of vintage clothing in the US. They import literal tons of pallets of vintage clothes from the US. Thrifting in Japan is just buying overpriced things that were once here.

There's a Second Street in the town where I'm living now (in Japan). I decided that I should go there once a week, so I've now been three times. I'm trying to control myself. This week I bought the cutest watch for 1900 yen and then went home and looked it up. It's a Japanese brand and it's currently for sale on the company website for $135! So it's not even old. Last week I bought two skirts, each were less than $3--one fits me perfectly--I was shocked because I am also 14/16. The fit wasn't great on the other one, but it's still cool.

This is my fav area (other than kichijoji) Flamingo was my fav shop ^_^ I miss jp so much . great haul! so crazy that you only found American things, maybe because we went to very different shops. I mean i did see a lot of American stuff too (there is a whole history particularly about denim of importing to jp) but I am really into brands like listen flavor, wc, eatme(lol for the name alone), swankiss, ect that it was kind more what i was targeting at and I found a lot of those. I know it's not helpful now but for next time check out closet child. there are a few of them (one in harajuku actually) and it's all japanese brands. they have several levels and styles there i think you could have found something there for sure.

Japan is number one on my bucket list. I want to go to DisneySea and also shop at Shibuya 101 in downtown Tokyo. If you’re still in Tokyo you must go! I’m shocked the vintage stores in Japan are that expensive! I’m used to expensive Buffalo Exchange and Plato’s Closet vintage shops here in Orange County, but they’re way cheaper than Japanese vintage stores! When I visit Japan I’ll make sure to bring my clothes to sell. Living in Orange County and going to Cal State Fullerton I have a shit ton of shirts emblazoned with OC on it that Japanese would eat up since they love US college shirts

Hi I’m Japanese. Just to let you know, there are thrift shops with Japanese clothing which is cheap. However, the size variation would be similar to a Japanese retail store so maybe not as enjoyable for Japanese plus size(US medium or up?) You’d have to dig for larger sizes…

I don’t even bother to look for clothing when I go to Asia…as a larger, but not plus size, woman I know I won’t fit into even the largest woman’s sizes in Asia, it would probably be hard to find me s sizes that are big enough. Also, the Japanese love American culture, so I’m not surprised most of the clothing is American. I’m planning on looking at pre loved designer bags there….the Japanese are meticulous when caring for their goods, and they frequently get rid of things that aren’t I. Style anymore, so I’m hoping I can find some good things when I’m there!
@suzannelawson9215 Жыл бұрын
What would you say are some of the main differences between thrift shops in Japan vs. let's say shopping at a Goodwill or Salvation Army in USA? Do most of of the thrift shops allow you to try on clothes? Do they accept American dollars to pay for things at either thrift stores or regular stores? Did you get your American money changed to currency for Japan in banks in Tokyo? Or did you get your money for Japanese currency in USA?
@wendyWERKKZ Жыл бұрын
If you travel abroad to especially Europe or Asia the only place they might accept US dollars are international airports, you need to exchange your money, I think (I haven’t traveled since before COVID) the best rate for currency exchange is to change your money at your home banks, the airports I think are more expensive but also more convenient sometimes and then there are places abroad that will change your money cash or card to the currency of where you’re at. I remember in Japan there was little hubs with signs that I think said money exchange in the main shopping centers and you would line up like a bank or also use an atm to get money from your own us bank BUT those exchange rates also depend on your bank and their abroad / withdrawal fees.
