Damn, you guys have more self control than I ever will - I fired up our oil burner about a month ago!

Glad to see and hear it's still working perfectly, after 9 years! Love that inducer fan spool up.

They make these in the largest gas residential furnace factory right here in my home town of Indianapolis!

Good to hear from you again. ^^ Hope you're doing well. That's really good! Hope that it continues for another 10 years no issues.

Still fires up, like it should. I still have yet to fire mine up. Still using the A/C part of it. Living in the south and all.

Damn, still haven’t had to turn on the heat here in California and is almost December! Though, I live in the southwest where it doesn’t get all that cold in the fall and winter months. In Arizona where both of my sisters live, it’s pretty much summer all year round since it’s still well into the 80’s and 90’s in the wintertime and isn’t too common to turn the heat on and if you do, it’s to take off “the morning chill” and that’s about it.

My Bryant gas furnace with A/C was installed in April 2014. 96.5% efficiency one speed. I didn’t want the complication and potential failure/repair costs of a modulating system. Same company manufactures Bryant and Carrier.

I can't believe it's been almost a decade since you replaced the Tempstar/Arcoaire with the new Carrier equipment. I wonder if that Arcoaire furnace is still chugging along.

The modulating feature is for comfort and doesn't save much energy by itself - beyond reducing the small startup/shutdown losses. Going from a low or mid efficiency furnace to a 96 to 98% produces bulk of savings. But yes the point is to get continuous operation most of the season, takes sizing it close to do that. I think 2-stage which drops to 65% on low fire, sized as small as possible while still having enough capacity is the sweet spot when it comes to balances between complexity, cost and comfort. (...and when on a good 2-stage t-stat runs continuously in cold snaps) Would hate to have to spend $1k for a inducer or $500 for a communicating t-stat on the top of the line equipment.
