I would like to know what to do to top up the liquid in a lava lamp. I wonder if I just need to add the concentrated epsom salt water? I just bought one but the liquid level stops below the cone that goes on the top and it looks a bit crap. I would take it back to the shop but I already exchanged it once because the previous one had no bulb. I live a long way from that store. I just want a working lava lamp that has nothing wrong with it.😔

I had this exact model or a very very similar one as a kid in the 1980’s. I didn’t have a tv but I woke to the sounds of Rocky and Bullwinkle for years by leaving my “radio” tuned into the tv station that broadcast that cartoon in the mornings. I once made the mistake of using the buzzer. It woke up my entire family (and this was in a big old house outside Chicago) however I was so tired that I remained asleep until my family woke me to turn the thing off.

Those GPX things were a "free gift" from your insurance company when they gouge you with a $1500 premium. Probably worth about $5 if that.

Hi there - if I recall correctly, you had uploaded a video years ago showing off a 16mm print of the Filmation Tom and Jerry short PIED PIPER PUSS, and you mentioned having a Betamax recording of the show as well. May I ask what happened to that video? Thanks

You have to use the wax that is already in the lamp. If not, you have to buy from Lava Lab Creations

I've got a General Electric refrigerator from the mid-80s out in the garage. It doesn't have the bells n' whistles of a contemporary appliance but that gem hasn't broke down once and still works like a champ.

Very nice piece of GE music box history. These had very nice sound indeed. I used to have one like the smaller unit you show I used in my shop for many years. The tape player eventually wore out and I could not get parts. It's still around here somewhere. Great work repairing the mechanics on the deck. Great video showing this unit and it's features! Cheers! 🍻

You take such great care of these things. I'm fond of General Electric stuff of that era. Their clothes washers were something else. I always had some GE radios and things lying around. Too bad I couldn't keep a lot of them. I just acquired a couple of interesting AM-only GE radios that have a light inside. Very atomic looking with electronic components in sight. I also have a GE radio with fold-out speakers I'd like to get working. I may finally get the chance to fix these things soon. Great video Spats!

I didn't know most of the turntables that RadioShack offered in 1977 were all BSR OEM'ed stuff. I thought they had some pioneer tables as well at the time. Did you guys get a dog recently?

SO FRIGGIN COOL! I love this box. The cassette deck sounds phenomenal. I'm happy to have the boxes I have, but none of them compare to this or the 3-6045A. Some day I need to get around to finding out what's wrong with the cassette deck on my 3-52864.

I used to have a Sears bookshelf stereo (Model RE1306) that I swear is the exact same as this model - except cheaper looking and the speakers aren't attachable. I got rid of it years back because one of the speakers was completely cooked, and I remember the cassette mechanism having a lot of issues. I saw that same Sears model recently at a thrift store and it did tempt me.

This was a top tier box, as good as my Panasonic RX-5150. GE built some real good stuff back then, they also built some not so good low end stuff- but their top notch electronics stood right up with the likes of Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi and other lesser known Japanese brands like Crown, Conion, etc. This era of electronics was a great time to be alive. Manufacturers did everything to actually compete. Today, all we have are tablets, phones, cheap flat screen TVs and "speakers" with low rent class D amp chips and cheap drivers meant to last the life of the spicy pillow batteries inside, if they don't burn your house down in the process. I'm ready for Marty and Doc to roll up in my driveway, set that Time Computer for Nov 11 1985 and I'd be gone from this looney bin of a modern world.

This doesn't need to boast it's features because it is the real deal. Brands like GPX can only wish to be this nice being made by themselves without other makers doing it for them. So in the meantime, they have to boast about things like "full functional cassette player without rewind" or "Bass reflex speakers" or "digital sound system". Only to find out, that it's anything but.. 19:52 The song plays, without the sweet ride..

I bought this model when I was in the military because of the Phone and Aux inputs and also that I could add external speakers, so I could build my component system as I could afford the pieces, then I got married and the only thing I had added was a turntable. Now 43 years later, still use it as my garage radio.

Just got one exactly like this a few days ago for $25. The fan was siezed up...but after much trying and lubing...I finally got it freed up. Now it comes up to full speed quickly like this one Did. It is way too dry and cold on this area right now...under 20% humidity ....but the evaporator coil reached under 35 degrees in some places...th e condensor was near 100 Degrees...after a few minutes. I expect in a few months it will work well..when it gets warm and moist in the air..

(several years later) The first fan operates just fine at that voltage (230 volts), since it's likely designed for that and underpowered with 120 volts. Replacing the thermal fuse with something of a standard one would do it just fine. The second one definitely needed to be oiled (the motor that is) so it works as intended without making that rattling noise. Fan motors do need lubrication after a while, if it loses speed or makes noise. Quite easy to do.

I have a Shintom 460, an even stranger machine. The only buttons on the front are Power, Play, Stop/Eject, and channel up and down. It has an IR port for the remote, and claims to be fully programmable. Same mechanism as yours. So nice to find a good, old school, heavy VCR for a change, instead of the crap they started putting out in the 90s.
