Look, I get it - a show is a show, and characters and situations change. I mean, New York certainly has over the last 25 years. But SATC felt vibrant and fresh and had teeth, even in those later seasons. The SATC movies were something different, but they at least reveled in the fantasy and friendship of the women. But this? I don't care about half of these people, no one's problems are relatable, and even the 2023 subject matter that could be done well (non-binary identity, diversity, later in life lesbianism, death of a partner, menopause) feels stale and written by people who just don't get it. People will accuse AJLT of being woke, but truth be told - old SATC was woke as hell and progressive and pushed boundaries, but it was SMART. This is deeply stupid and offensive and BORING. People want wit and humour. This is just rich people being sad.

Were the original series woke? Yes, they portrayed gay men but always depicted them as sexually promiscuous and celebrated this "inalienable" promiscuity. Yes, the 4 leads were single women in their 30s, which was refreshing. But they were impossibly thin, made-up and always wore feet-deforming shoes. And they did not pass the Bechdel test. The women seemingly enjoyed having lots of sex with lots of partners, thus succumbing to a male pattern of sexuality, as if it's neutral and "universal", and as if orgasm gap does not exist.
