Please address her as Grandma!! American here, it seems so impersonal to call her mother in law , to me anyway. That is what we in America would continually call her if we didn't really like her so much. If you are close and she is loved she is just Grandma!! Thanks for Sharing your life's adventures with us

@@allysinthegarden Haha, that's a very different culture - calling her grandmother would be a huge insult, so that's not going to happen! When I talk about her she is my mother-in-law (popo in Chinese), and when I talk to her I call her mum (ma/ama in Chinese). I follow the culture that she's part of, not American culture since neither she nor I am American. In Sweden we use first names, since "mum" would be strange, and anything else would be impersonal. If you in Sweden called your mother-in-law "grandma" that would also be an insult.

I should a have been more clear about what your terms of endearment to mothers where besides mother in law, I guess grandmother just popped in my head as a first uneducated guess lol!

@@ragnarthesomewhatmagnifice7439 I completely disagree. There is a subtle racism and fear for the unknown in sweden. I am a swede who has a lot of internation friends as well as a foreign boyfriend. This is really not true, but you wouldn't know it until people affected by it tell you.

The more I watch their videos the more I understand how they came together. There are good and not so good bits of adjusting to cultural differences. Societies may well say Miriam made more compromises in their relationship but she seems to enjoy the fun of getting to know the culture itself. She chose to travel to China and learn the language in the first place so she has the right mindset and is true to herself, not swayed by the the cultural stereotypes. And surely her husband played an important part too in all this- he's handsome and charismatic and it's not hard to see why she loves him. I think when they live in Sweden her husband has much more to adjust to such as the food, learning a new language and being away from the rest of his close-knit relatives not to mention how much his folks would miss him and his little family. None of these she would have as much trouble with when she lives with him in China. At the end of the day the compromises are worth it as they seem to have the most healthy relationship and it's such a joy to witness in their videos.

Haha, maybe! I always thought it was going to be a boy! Yes, she's very open minded! So we both learn from each other, although I feel like I'm more often the student though. But that's generally how it is with generations I suppose, that we learn from the elder!

Congratulations to Mama!!! I have to say, you really touch my heart. There is always much joy in your videos. You as a family are so loving and kind and always happy and smiling. I believe it must be a reflection of how you were raised? Yet, your Mother in Law didn't have a good experience with her MIL and yet, what a wonderful person she is. I admire that. What I also admire is the fact that she works so hard. your son is so lucky to be growing up in that environment. As a city boy I remember spending my holidays at my grandfather's place and climbing the durian trees in his backyard. I also remember pulling out all the grass at the patch in my front yard because I was hyperactive and that did not please my parents at all.

Your mother-in-law knows the land and has experience. In North America, you can buy carrots anywhere. Chinese people grow hard-to-find Chinese vegetables and melons. Animals (deer, squirrel, raccoon, and rabbit) can destroy the crop if it is not fenced in.

I wish your mother in-law was my mom. She's looks so sweet and her smile light's up the room. She reminds me of the lady who held my son at the restaurant for many many many years! She would give him cookies, cakes and crackers and kiss him on the head. She never spoke English. That was the best part. We just loved her. That's what your mother in-law reminds me of. All the good times. Congratulations to your mom for winning. That means she's been around for ever...just like me.
