In our second coaching session, I realise a shocking truth about Mark's game - he suffers cronically from Calling Station syndrome. Can I fix this leak in his game and turn his losing poker graph upside down? Only time will tell. First thing's first though; let's learn to FOLD.

Yeah I had this leak in the early days of my career as well. Just couldn’t handle the feeling of losing a pot I had the chance to win.

I hear ya Cameron - it's a killer to the winrate! Maybe at the higher stakes some of the calls aren't terrible, but at 50NL they just aren't bluffing enough!

@@CarrotCornerPoker I think another useful thing to visualize, in addition to yourself being okay with that guy getting through the bluff, is your under-bluffing opponent seeing you fold and realizing he just can't get value unless/until he demonstrates that he can find TOO MANY bluffs in that spot but JUST AGAINST YOU and THEN adjust BACK to value when you adjust, and sighing because that's a very tall mountain to climb, and realizing that you need the 'reg' tag, and resigning himself to the fact that he's just not going to make any money against you. Because that is, by far, the more likely scenario in this spot. And of course both of those scenarios can, and will, happen.

I had many leaks in my game. Many. But I kind of had the opposite of this one. My mantra was well giving them my money in bad calls , yeah that will really show em ( sarcasticly said ). But unfortunately I did give them my money cause I could be run over by them. They knew they could over bluff me. Of course then I overcorrected. Which worked for a while cause they still hadn’t caught on I was turning into a station in these spots. Now I’m getting closer ( well to the best of my ability/knowledge) to being more solid in similar spots

I feel like Mark has a strong understanding of some aspects of the game but just needs to clean some of his habits and I think a good strategy may be to try a session where you try to overfold / just assume they always have it and then work on the exceptions of when to call (ex. players with high river bet or spots that may be overbluffed) The quality of Carroters stuff is incredible I hope one day I'd have the chance to be coached by him

100% relating to my lizard brain's aversion to being bluffed, I click that call button all too often. The cards flip over and they often have it, which in turn makes me super angry. F$#@H M$#)%H. Nothing is learnt and the cycle continues. Intrigued to see how this series progresses, GL Mark!

Hey Pete. I am a player who has absolutely smashed NL16 and below on stars but have mediocre results at NL25 and 50 so looking to improve my theory and thought process when playing. It was easy to just exploit exploit exploit at the micros. Was recommended to watch your content by a fellow grinder in my poker study group. Watched all the cash game mastery sessions this week on my paternity leave. Love the sense of humour just as much as the content. Its the monkey brain that cares about social hierarchy stuff. Lizard brain is about things like food, protection, sex. I had a similar issue to the "what if they bluff me". I mostly solved it (still shows up when Im on tilt) in two ways. First way is that I say to myself, ok, I can be bluffed in this spot but if I fold I make more money which makes me the better player. Second way is that I look to avoid getting in those spots in the first place. Maybe its not the most optimal ev way to play, but if given two choices I'm indifferent about, Im going to prefer to play a smaller pot. Im not playing high enough stakes for the population to exploit this and find the bluffs anyways

Another thing to consider on the flush hand. The guy also had 500 hands on Mark and before he got training, one of his leaks was that he was too sticky. I'm wondering if it could be that this is a good reg betting larger on the flop with the nuts exploitatively against someone whom he believes is a sticky player. Maybe I'm not supposed to, but I usually size up with value against stickier players in this spot. Especially with a hand like A2, where I'm unblocking the other broadway diamonds.

i use targetting when i have a strong hand and my sizing targets villains value hands or draws that would call, so basically sizing up. to target his air i could size down. Is this / why is this incorrect?

I skipped some parts, do they ever talk about the perceived image of the hero? Because if he's a standard 20/17/7 vs a 28/24/13 , opponents will play differently against him and he will see a lot more value bets to the point of bluffcatching with nut flush on a paired board or a low flush on a mono board is just massive -EV . If the tables are anonymous most of the analysis is good, if not then it doesn't stand

Haahh. That happen to me this run at 1/3. I started and shot up 10k my first like 200 hrs and i kept myself in check i didnt think i was that good but it made me just start to question weather i was good or lucky. Since then weve doubled our hrs and evened out so far.

If making a polarizing bet makes villain think you have a flush or a bluff, then you can get a lot of calls from weaker hands that thought they were bluff catching, like second pair. If you can get called by second pair when you overbet, then adding some top pair to your polarizing bets makes sense doesn't it? I am not sure how to analyze if this is a +ev strategy and what percentage of large best can be value, bluff, and middle ( like top pair) Is this a standard strategy, or not a thing?

In the hand at 16:10. I personally think it's a clear call. I would honestly feel less inclined to call if flop bet was smaller (would still call at a high freq). Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or generally on the notion that a single bet sizing on a particular node should govern river decisions?

Second hand, 47dd: In theory a call. However: Villain's non-standard flop bet sizing is imho a clear indication that he is absolutely keen to get all money in by the River . - Means: He should in actual reality be clearly skewed towards heavy value; at least unless he is a maniac .

A9s Turn Call: I dont agree. Even if we have the best flush draw , who said the villain will bet River if the flush comes? So that implied odds in the river I dont agree you will have it so many times edit: when I comment this post I havent see the video until the River.. I start to write in Turn... I see villain was Allin. But You dont show the result. The result of the hand is important , to who is watching understand the final thougts. BUT I still saying.. that call for flush nuts in River was not a good call in long terms

Good question Ike. Pete can maybe clarify if he sees this, but here’s my thoughts … I think we technically are being bested the times we *are* getting bluffed but the point is we are not being bluffed often enough to make the call a winning one in the long term. Essentially population way underbluffs at lower stakes on certain lines so the profitable thing to do is just always fold rather than try to guess which villain isn’t underbluffing.

The first hand I don't really understand. Opening A9 utg maybe ok from the GTO point of view, but you are making your life so much easier just folding those pre in ep. And again, ok, nut flush draw on the flop, we call the raise, we didn't make our hand on the turn - just fold, why bother chasing those draws.

@@artemkorolev2257 I think the paired board is discussed as that is what happens in this scenario and I think he checks behind on the river if checked to is what I think Peter said. I assume we fold if we miss the draw and face a river bet
