I have two perfectly clear memories of Steve Irwin. The first is the first time I saw him on TV. I was around 10 sitting on my grandmothers chair, she was making lunch and this new show called crocodile hunter started playing. I was hooked! The second is when I heard of his death. I was a sophomore in college studying animal science (I wanted to be a zookeeper). His death was a stop everything moment at a school focused on animal science and behavior. I also remember feeling a wave of responsibility hit. Now that Steve was gone, it was even more important for those of us he inspired to carry on his passion and mission. He was and still is my hero.

I read a book years ago (before the dog ate it) on Steve's early life, him meeting Terri and her early life and Bindi coming into the world. Steve's passion for conservation was infectious, he loved animals. His passion has been a driving factor for me to help clean up the world's largest inland estuary, the Chesapeake Bay! 15 years ago the world lost a treasure, but now 15 years later Steve's spirit, his passion, his legacy lives on!

From the title piece of my book, The Grieving Heart, about Loss,, Hope and Living, this passage came to mind upon watching this touching segment. “The grieving heart knows no bounds to its creativity. It will put into words, pictures, paintings, songs, sculptures and dance - whatever it takes to remember their loved ones” I have no doubt that Steve is loving the expanses to the family business. In fact I might need to revise the piece to include running a zoo 💕

All zoo environments, particularly here in the states & older city zoos all around the world really need to be, (at least), tripled in size. But the work that this family does for wildlife conservation/ assisting animals in need of surgery is admirable.

i feel very conflicted about zoos b/c you are 100% right. while i love visiting them, i can't help but wonder how many of them are aging quite a bit, are super understaffed, and i am concerned about the welfare of these animals. even though i don't think zookeepers are cruel or mean-spirited, i just wonder how much you can do to help animals who aren't meant to live in urban environments but at the same time, when I travel to cities I always go to zoos and see a myriad of younger kids on tours, or avidly reading about all the animals and our environment. I have hope that this inspires the next generation to love and appreciate nature in ways that my generation and others before me failed to do so i'll leave with one quick story. I went to the Pittsburgh Zoo many years ago now. There was a polar bear there that looked sad and ragged, possibly due to the rough weather (it was hot and humid). However, I was inspired b/c there were many young kids who were looking at the polar bear and reading about how to take care of them. One of them said, "When i grow up, i want to take care of polar bears and keep them safe." That makes me hopeful

The point here is that billions of animals died in Australia recently and all people can talk about, in the comments, is how much they like or hate these people. I mean they are doing the best they can to help these poor struggling animals. What are you doing to make the world a better place? Maybe you don't like them because you don't believe you could achieve as much as they have but I am here to tell you that any bit of action and compassion helps. Stop cutting people down and start looking around for what you can actually do instead of commenting mean stuff on the internet.

I totally love the Irwin family and what they do for wildlife conservation. I was totally heartbroken when Steve Irwin passed. Blessing and protection for the Irwin family and all the staff at the Australian Zoo as they continue the legacy of Steve Irwin. Animals are at the mercy of the world. So many has already gone extinct due to human's heartless actions towards wildlife. The Irwin family and other wildlife conservationists work tirelessly to make sure the wildlife now is still around for future generations.

You mean trained a sting ray to locate and stab Steve? Unless he planned to divorce her (and she'd still have gotten filthy rich from it), taking Steve out was not in her interest. He was the main attraction of his zoo and TV shows, bringing in the dough and allowing her to live like a queen. She could not have predicted at the time that their kids (Robert at least) would partially inherit his charisma and keep the business going as well as he did.

You need to expand your interests. It's a shame you are so imbittered. All zoos and wildlife advocates are so important. They will always bring joy to children and adults who love animals and want to do everything possible to ensure there continued existence. @@petemichael4512 Good answer Pete. Too many animals have already gone extinct. I support zoos especially when the animals have space to roam and made to look like their habitat. Once an hour they say "conservation!" but the rest is all cutesy scripted reality TV, watching Bindi say "hi" to workers and occasionally feeding a baby animal. Too painful to watch unless you enjoy badly scripted sappy reality tv. So many negative reviews on their zoo for being more of a weird monument to Steve than a serious conservation and wildlife protection organization. Lots of complaints by workers for being treated badly too.
