People wonder why these movies endure, most say innocence of humour etc. but personally I'd say it's the cinematography, especially the period ones like Jack, Dick and this, they're just beautiful, like moving oil pantings

The Carry On's were made with what would be considered a tiny budget these days, but they always looked incredibly well made.

I worked on Camping. They paid low rates but they were all very professional people and everyone loved working on them. Schedules were ridiculously short so everything was done fast. Hard work but good fun too. Don’t Lose Your Head borrowed costumes and sets from Scarlet Pimpernel, while Cleo used sets and costumes that had been intended for Cleopatra. So they always looked more expensive than they were.

@@metalbearuk it was great fun. I did the what is now called adr so spent hours in the sound recording theatre with the cast. Only Kenneth Williams was a disappointment as he was in a foul mood the day he came in. But I liked them all lots. Bette Marsden got me drunk one evening. I adored Joan Sims who made me laugh so much one day I got thrown out until I could calm down!

Hands up who noticed the street sign PLACE DE LA TETE PRUNE? ("Place of the Head Pruning") lol. The Carry Ons are full of things like that...but you have to be quick! Also note that _Don't Lose Your Head_ has some very rare adlibs. Despite the comedy, these films were very tightly scripted and adlibs were unusual. This movie contains at least two: Charles Hawtrey (as the Count De Pom Frite...who nearly has his chips...lol) says "put it in the basket. I'll read it later". And second, when Peter Butterworth as Citizen Bidet accidentally loses his hat Kenneth Williams (Camembert) says "Mind yer hat!". This is also unscripted and the hat coming off would normally have required a retake of the scene. This film was made at the height of the Carry On films popularity, as witness the large cast, and extensive use of many extras, as well as expensive costumes, sets and locations. The Dress Ball for example.

I've just spotted a continuity error: the snuff box was originally placed lower down in the runnel, but when Sir Rodney goes back up to the guillotine, after the blade got stuck, the snuff box is much higher up.
