@AgentWest6 жыл бұрын
That is turning out to be one awesome mini bike! Now that it has a generator one thing you do _have_ to have is a voltage regulator to keep the battery from over-charging. It will be fine as long as the lights and/or the seat is on since that will draw about as much as the generator is making, but DO install a voltage regulator in the system before going anywhere far. On a related note: since you are using a motor as a generator, why not feed it power and use it as a starter as well? If it is not strong enough for that it can be at least used as a 'start assist' for the pull cord. Have a push button that you press as you pull the starter cord and that little motor will make that easier. On top of that the motor may act as a small booster if you hit that button while riding. EDIT: Cheers on 400K!

Mud tires (I use 19x7-8 Duro Red Eagles) 2. Snorkel to the handlebars with a trident (PVC piping works great) 3. Old cruiser windsheild (I used one from a honda shadow, almost a direct fit!) 4. Acerbis Vision handgaurds (more light) 5. RHB31 Turbocharger (non-intercooled, 3-5lbs of boost) Great videos guys, keep up the good work!!! 🛠️👊

You need 14.4v or so to charge the battery, so unless you are max rpm that is really not going to charge the battery. And you also need a regulator, because you do not want to cook the battery if you are generating too much power at high rpm.
@isaacitllbefine72316 жыл бұрын
we checked wot it didnt go over 18v. it puts out 14.5 v at a moderate rpm
@suzukietc13736 жыл бұрын
You only need more voltage than the system is using. My 12v converted 78 gp100 only charges at 13.5v. As it has no electric start and all led lights it doesn't need any more
@keaganknapp22376 жыл бұрын
The "Bulk" is done at 14.4v, but 13.5v is more of a float voltage but is fine

Not to say your charging system isn't cool, hell I was pretty amazed, but that diod isn't going to cut it. You need to install a rectifier to keep the battery from exploding from being overcharged. I've work on a lot of bikes and was an aviation electronics tech in the Navy. So I know a little bit about what I'm talking about. You can find them pretty cheap. Just Google motorcycle rectifier. And starting solenoids are cheap for motorcycles also, like $12. You're like 4 lights and a front brake away from being street legal. You should see if you can get it legal for the street and register it. That would be the coolest mini bike ever. A mini bike scrambler.
@reno26756 жыл бұрын

Rectifier*- no they need a voltage regulator
@driftbandit8896 жыл бұрын
Ben Hawke hopefully they read this haha 👌
@benhawke72316 жыл бұрын
three wheela No, on bikes they use bridged rectifiers now. Regulators are bigger and use relays, rectifiers use diodes and transistors. They haven't used regulators in quite a while. That's why on car alternators they can combine the regulated inside the alternator. Because they switched to rectifiers. But since they are using a DC generator, they probably do need to try and find a regulator, because I am now thinking that a rectifier won't work with a geni. They use rectifiers on bikes now because bike stators output AC voltage. Granted, a lot of people still call them regulators.

If you check the comments, it doesn't produce over 14.5v, so hes good.
@brandoncharley30706 жыл бұрын
You should look into the charging system on gas golf carts, I THINK their generator and starter is all one unit meaning you could just replace the Bens alternator and be done. Alternator setup might be the coolest thing I've seen you do on here, btw.

When you get a good belt on the generator, you should set up a circuit to power the generator motor from the battery and use it as your electric starter. Years ago they used to use starter/generators on some lawn mower/tractor.
