The family and I took our Tiggo 8 Pro max AWD down to a remote game farm last weekend. If I had known beforehand, I wouldn't have taken it coz the road was non existent after the major rains. 40km of dirt road of which the last 10km was a combination of deep mud, semi flooded low level bridges and a steep rocky mountain pass with some serious axle twisters. Unfortunately when we got to that point we were committed so no turning back. Let's just say my heavily modified Fortuner 4x4 would have been impressed. I took it really slow and she performed like a dream. The ground clearance was amazing. The Off Road mode worked well for what it is. The Tiggo 8 is a softroader and wasn't designed for that kind of abuse but it did it with a smile. Highway driving is very comfy and the power is insane. Kids love the back seats too. So far I'm very impressed.

What a great story, thank you for sharing! And if you had been in the FWD Sportage or Tiguan, you would have been totally stuck. Even though it's the most affordable car here, the Tiggo is the only one with AWD which I think, depending on your needs, is very useful in South Africa.
@vincentmolloy56602 сағат бұрын
@CiroDeSiena I drove the front wheel drive and found the 2.0l exec engine to be a bit too powerful. Put your foot down and it will spin the wheels without blinking an eyelid. I also didn't like the steering torque on the FWD when accelerating hard out of corners. Perhaps the 1.6l would be a better option for that? However its not a show stopper as both FWD models are much cheaper than the AWD. The FWD is also better on fuel consumption so it has its place. Disclaimer: I haven't driven either of the other two vehicles in the video so I cannot comment on those. Nice video, thanks.

@fred7511 this is something that I agree with. Not a complete show stopper for me but it would have been nice if the Chery had switches for the fan and AC temp control instead of the touch buttons. You can access it from the main screen or you could just ask the car to lower or increase those parameters, but we often forget it has the voice feature, and to be honest the voice feature works well if you know all the commands, otherwise that can be a pain as well.

@SDav21 nothing more wrong with a Chery than with any of the other 2, but the toy factor or bling factor, or PlayStation factor is a lot more evident and by far the main character of the product. The Chery is the biggest toy of the 3 and therefore if used on a daily basis will loose its wow factor the quickest just like most toys if used daily. The Tiguan will keep its owner happy the longest then the Kia and then the Chery especially if they are used daily. I just bought a water pump for my 1999 Toyota Rav4 @ Goldwagen for R620, Toyota still stock it @ R3900 and I reckon a cheap pirate part will be available for R450. Try that on your 26 year old Chery in 26 years time, try it on your 5 year old Chery.

@@peetjvdm You clearly haven't driven a Chery. My friends have theirs for almost 2 years and it surprises daily unlike the boring and dull Tiguan which owners won't care about a day after owning it. The Tiguan will keep the owner happy with free coffees at the dealership while they sort out 1.4 tsi engine issues and dsg mechatronics. The Chinese are masters at production and making high quality after market parts. So what makes you think they won't be producing parts for it. Haha. Besides, how many people keep cars for 20 years any way. Very few. And for those that do, there will be plenty parts. Your anti China stance is outdated and boring....
@peetjvdm2 сағат бұрын
@SDav21 if I stayed in China, Chery would have been my first choice, staying in South Africa, sorry it is a no no for me. Local is lekker, not because I have something against any Chinese brands or think they're rubbish but mainly because the local factories keep food on the table for many households in sunny South Africa. If Toyota, VW, Ford, Nissan, MB, BMW pull their plants out of South Africa do you think the Chinese will provide for the thousands of households that will be affected by that. Sorry but give me local, no matter the price.
@SDav21Сағат бұрын
@@peetjvdm The Chinese will set up factories here when the greedy legacy automakers start losing out due to their unreasonably high prices. Cars like the Ranger, X3, C Class, Corolla Cross, Hilux etc are all produced locally yet they aren't any cheaper than it is overseas. We see zero benefit as consumers. It's pure greed. So I'm glad the Chinese are here with their normal prices to knock sense into everyone. And then, for example, Toyota still has the audacity to sell us a stripped down version of the Corolla Cross which isn't close to what they get overseas. In Australia the Corolla Cross has the new 2 litre engine and the hybrid isn't the old 1.8 based hybrid we get but the 2 litre one. And while they get full digital dials, bigger and better infotainment screens, sunroofs and generally better equipment, we get cheaped out versions that isn't even really cheap. They are taking us for a ride but you guys are so brainwashed by the legacy of the brand you don't see it. They are making tons of money while consumers can't enjoy good cars with great features. The Chinese give us world class cars with features the legacy manufacturers want to gate keep and pretend is expensive to make standard or offer. Not anymore.

I expect tomfoolery from Volkswagen and they neve disappoint given this 1.4L turbo engine and optional extra syndrome, the price is just too exorbitant for what a Tiguan offers. The Chery is the bang for buck deal. It's not perfect and it's not a hard off-roader and it doesn't claim to be. It's just value.
