I would forego some of that boot space for a spare wheel. Not something you need often, but when you need it and don't have it, it is more than just a minor inconvenience.
@martinottosson65834 күн бұрын
Very nice. What struck me directly is the lack of 40-40-20 split in the back seat. When you have two child seats in the back, it´s really handy to be able to fold the middle seat in the Model Y for skis, hockey clubs, archery gear, two bikes for the kids, IKEA packages or whatever that is long. Apart from that, very promising.

Great review! The Kia EV5 looks like a strong contender in the electric SUV market, especially with its competitive pricing and unique design. I'm curious to see how it performs against the Tesla Model Y in real-world conditions. Thanks for breaking down the features and giving us a closer look at what makes the EV5 stand out!
@jalenqin15 күн бұрын
Check the EV5 price compared to ATTO3 or other CHinese EV sell price in AU, you wont say the price is competitve. Plus, the most of the seucity feature you only get on GT model.

There's a reason why it's cheaper than the current model y RWD - a lot of things missing in the air which are standard inclusions in the tesla.

Exactly. At this price, the EV5 is not the gamechanging EV I hoped it would be. A little bit disappointed.

@@chucknorris8704 We will be unlikely to see this one on the roads when we have Leapmotor C10 and Xpeng. I am fan of Hyundai/Kia myself but EV5 Gt-line is not worth 10k AUD more expensive than Xpeng. Gonna see price reduced in the future pretty soon
@trizvanov26 күн бұрын
Agreed. The efficiency is not ideal and it will perform even worse when the temperature drops below 15 degrees as it doesn't come with a reverse-cycle aircon (Heatpump). The fact that KIA forces you into an even less efficient GT-line just to get all options in, makes it an even worse proposition. PS. I can confirm that Australian models do NOT come with heatpump regardless of grade

I sat in one yesterday. That extra "seat" in the middle...not sure how the designer got that through. I need places to store things. The paint work was terrible, as in very ripply and orange peel. Along with no heatpump option in Australia I was a bit disappointed overall after all this wait. Also, not that I am worried about EV battery lifespan, but reducing the warranty to only 150k indicates KIA is not overly confident in it's longevity. I think this goes for the motor as well and the other HV components. 200k would of been more confidence inspiring for potential customers and indicate Kia had faith in their engineering. Although Kia claims a warranty of 7 years, there are many caveats.

Nice looking car but the public are still waiting for price parity with an equivalent ICE vehicle. EVs are still priced too high, especially when you look at the much reduced lithium price, and the increased mass production quantities of the finished batteries.
@thelorax962227 күн бұрын
A reduced lithium price would take quite a while to be reflected in the retail price of a car as they are planned years in advance. As for price parity, have you actually looked at the prices of equivalent size ICE cars? Well-equipped ones are $50k, so pretty much equivalent when you consider lower running and service costs for the EV. If you don't want one, that's fine - but you need better excuses than that.
@sphong06104 күн бұрын
@@thelorax9622 people aren't considering lower running costs when discussing prices. They want EVERYTHING to be advantageous: "I want my car to have every technological advancement and convenience option possible, but also be cheap; and btw, could I get a load of free stuff and tax rebates."

Kia unfortunately wont be able to carve a niche for itself in the ev segment with such pricing. It has to reduce prices or be ready to be kicked out of the race. EV race is very brutal, with so many Chinese brands flooding the Australian market.

Smaller cars suit tight European roads, and they have the NMC batteries which are better in cold weather than the LFP batteries in the Chinese built EV5 we get.

That 'design flourish' between the front seats is a real turn-off. It's ugly and a waste of space. If it is so great, why doesn't the EV9 have one? Overall, the car seems pretty good, but I could not look at that 'design mistake' every day - it's just wrong.
