If we were in the position we were in 2016 this would be fine. We now have a group of players who can actually win things and can give any opponent a game. Carsley has overseen one good half in 3 games against opposition who's combined 11's value is less than any one of England's attackers. The FA's strategy of throwing a brick out the office window and hiring whoever it hits just isn't good enough to lead this crop of players.

There's just no way that anyone can take someone seriously when they start three attacking midfielders and put two of them as strikers and the other (Palmer) as a defensive midfielder. Carsley's tactics didn't set up England for success but the players attitude showed they did not care that much whereas this game meant far more to Greece who were playing to win.

It was good that he tried something different, in what was an essentially meaningless game. All Goldbridge ever did was criticise Southgate for playing his first XI in all of the friendlies and not trying anything different. His master plan is to replace Kane with Watkins. I’m sure Carsley is fully aware of making that change and will do that for Sunday. Southgate is a hugely intelligent man who spoke well, being able to do that part of the job is an underrated skill.

If Carsley wanted to fit all our midfield talent in he should have taken what Southgate introduced in our last three euros game and did a 3-4-2-1. Watkins Palmer Foden Lewis Bellingham Rice Saka Guehi Stones Trent I think here we have the perfect balance still even tho we have fitted Palmer, Bellingham and Foden in the midfield.
