When i used to service copiers we would use Castrol super clean to remove cigarette tar and the yellowing in the covers it worked pretty well. Purple power and castrol Super clean are pretty much the same thing. HOWEVER both products need to be rinsed and they both penetrate and dissolve skin so its best to wear gloves when using them.

Purple Power for petroleum oils and Simple Green for vegetable oils. Simple green is arguably less dangerous for minor repeated skin contact should it occur in real world use.

I use the heck out of Purple Power, but be forewarned, it WILL dull paint if left on for more than 30 seconds! Fantastic cleaner and degreaser though. If I use it on shiny paint I pressure wash it with water first and then leave the Purple Power on for no more than 30 seconds and flush with water.

Had you used the simple green product undiluted like you did with the other products, you would have had results comparable to Super Clean or better . Simple Green drgreaser has a higher alkalinity level and other surfactants that break down grease and grime better than most other degreasers. I'm a detailer and had reasons to research this topic a few years ago. I compared several brands and found simple green drgreaser to be the strongest albeit the most expensive product ounce for ounce.

Since SG was changed in 2013, it hasn’t been the same and is not nearly as caustic as Super Clean. The only product that I’ve seen beat Super Clean is oven cleaner, that includes the Zeps, Totally Awesome, Greased Lightning, Purple Power, etc. I saw Super Clean get 5 yr old oil stain out of concrete, the other cleaners couldn’t touch it. It’s also the reason it’ll never go near my car, it can etch Aluminum at 5-1 dilution.

Just did my valve covers and intake. Not sure what was stuck to the metal but it was like baked on oil or something. I'm the 2nd owner so who knows what kind of oil was being used. Gunk worked about as well as dish soap. Both purple power and superclean cut right thru it! I'd say in this application, the superclean was slightly better. But that was not a very scientific test. Both worked. Also noticed they will etch aluminum but that wasn't too important since I was painting it anyhow.

I used to use Kerosene or even gasoline with a stiff brush, to soften the tar undercoat. I know its not environmentally safe though. Ive had good luck using Gunk liquid spray..(not the foam)...letting it sit, then hitting it with a 1400 lb, vibrating spray washer. That works pretty good. Way back, when I was a teen I worked as a mechanic on a golf course. I used a steam Jenny as it was called. It ran on Kerosene and produced very high pressure steam ! That would take anything off ! I used to wear rain pants and a rain coat, because the grease and oil would cover me from head to foot...hahaha. Peace. matt.

I worked at a paving company and diesel/kerosene is what is used to clean asphalt but the EPA requires a citrus cleaner but does not work very well. I use diesel to wash engine parts because it dissolves grease and can be rinsed with water; you can also follow up with one of these detergent products if you need to paint or to remove any oily residue. (I figured this out from work experience)
@discerninggentleman89757 жыл бұрын
Great review, thank you! I've found that SuperClean diluted 4 or 5 to 1 sometimes works better that the concentrate depending on the surface and type of grime you're cleaning, which also makes it a fantastic value. Maybe worth testing at some point?

Do you think if I soak my chevy small block cast iron heads in purple power or some other degreaser, take it to the car wash and power wash spray it down, then wd-40 to prevent corrosion? Good process? Or just hit it with brake cleaner and be done with it? I'm trying to be eco friendly here, I don't want to contaminate my garden.

Hi. Can I use purple power on powder coated rims without messing up the powder coating? I get grease on my back tire from the chain, so I use pretty strong stuff to remove all of that, but I'm getting my rims coated and I'm afraid to use string chemicals so I don't ruin the coating. Thank you!
