The original Coyote X from season 1 is just so beautiful to my eye. Even more so than an original McLaren M6 GT. I ignore the VW pan and engine when I say that. As tempting as a V8 in that car would be: A bog standard V8, even made from billet aluminum, is just too heavy. How much lead do you want to be moulded into the front bumper? Yes... And which Gearbox do you want to use? Porsche G50? These are getting rare as well... An air-cooled flat four, brought up to around 150hp will play with a tube chassis and fiberglass panels just fine. Look up what the empty weight of a regular bug is and shave half of it off. That should be a rough estimate on such a kit cars weight. You just have to put some ingenuity into the thermal management. It's enough for show and some little fun here and there. Power to weight ratio and weight distribution are the most important magic equations in car design.

@@wiedapp The McClaren works MC12 had a v8
@wiedapp Жыл бұрын
@@proinseasokiellig4388 I can't find any car like that. And you can't possibly mean the Maserati MC12 (it has a V12 and is based on the Ferrari Enzo...and WAY too big). Do you mean the McLaren MP4 12C with it's 3.8L V8? Still: A V8 is too heavy in the little chassis of a coyote, especially as a rear engine, like in the bug base. If you could somehow manage to make it a mid engine, that could be another story.

Hey, you've got over 10,000 subscribers now 👍👍👍. Good for you, you certainly deserve it. I'm only subscribed to six channels and yours is not only one of them it's the only one that deals with cars.

The original Coyete was / is one of my most favorite TV cars of ALL TIME!!! I would LOVE to own one with some fast re-power.

Great video! I always thought the Coyote looked like a cheap VW Kit car and never found it even remotely believable but I didn't really care; the car was never more than a prop to me.

Thanks much and that's certainly understandable 😉

Fun fact: the music composer for Hardcastle & McCormick would go on to compose Law & Order's music, including the famous opening theme. He still does the music for those shows today.

Mike Post also did the themes from Rockford Files, Magnum, P.I., and Hill Street Blues. Some of the most memorable TV themes ever!

I'm so disappointed to learn that these show cars had such tiny engines, and that what we heard in the show was just dubbed horsepower. I almost regret requesting this now. The Coyote X seems to be the Grand Champion of 'All Show, No Go'. 40-65 base HP before performance mods... pffft!! Still, it was a beautiful car, and for the era, it was futuristic looking to some degree. Kinda like many of the Concept Cars put on display back in the 60's & 70's. Good job finding all the details about this unique TV car.

Indeed same here; they sure faked it well, but at least they didn't resort to using scale models at any point like so many other shows did at the time, lol 😉

Awesome, I watched this show as a kid. I too always heard about a Porsche engine being in it, good to know what engine was in it.😊

I go with the first seasons car. My favorite car of all times in reality is the Lotus Elise MK1. I like the philosophy behind this types of cars. Light, good feeling for the underground and fast. And a VW engine for the coyote must not be bad. Karman Ghias were also produced with a VW engine build under license. All together fabulous cars, which will always have a place in my heart.
