@@CarsWithJB I have to be careful with diesels. I live in an ULEZ unfortunately. I've been looking into a 2009 Honda Civic ES, 1.8 petrol. Would love to hear your opinion on this.
@CarsWithJB5 жыл бұрын
ForeverGreatest_AI ah yes that is annoying - not worth going for a diesel then! The '09 civic was that somewhat under-loved shape, a good friend of mine has a type r in that shape and I still rate it highly personally. The 1.8 ES comes with VTEC doesn't it - and goes for under £5kish? I feel like there are plenty of positives around the car in terms of fuel efficiency (42mpg or something ridiculous) and of course the VTEC for a bit of high revving fun, but you may wish you'd gone for a type R at some point depending on what you want the car for! I'd say it's a great platform for someone who wants a taste of type R fun but wants a bit more practicality still though (5 doors etc)
@forevergreatest_ai44425 жыл бұрын
@@CarsWithJB Sold! Civic it is then mate! The car come in to around 3.5k with around 65k on the clock- however insurance for me varies from 1.9k to 2.2k without a black box. Although I absolutely love the torque from a diesel...VTEC kicking in is definitely a selling point.

Doesn't matter how fast your car can go round a corner if it only takes 0.1G to slide you onto the passenger seat! Definitely a good upgrade. I agree on the upholstering though, always looks a bit naff having stuff from the wrong car. Saw a BMW 325i with a Type R badge on once...that was amazing. Most difficult job I've done on my car? Washing my old, red Peugeot 306 (epic beast) after I parked it under a power line during migration season and a good 2,000 birds emptied their blackcurrant-filled loads onto about 7-8 cars including mine. I've never done much serious mechanical work, but I'd rather rebuild an engine than deal with that again. Took at least 5 hours of proper hard scrubbing to get that thing clean.
@CarsWithJB5 жыл бұрын
Agreed! It really was a completely worth it modification, helps so much with the overall feel of the car. But yes reupholstery is on my list to get rid of those GTI logos! I once saw a Smart car with the Mercedes logos swapped onto it, like I get the reference but really. To be fair I had seagulls deposit on my polo while I was in Bath and it was so much effort to clean it off after baked on by the sun! Not fun at all. Can't have been anywhere near as bad as your powerline job though. You going to London classic car show tomorrow?
@ApothecaryTerry5 жыл бұрын
Nah, bit far for me and not really a classic car guy. I do need to go to more car shows though, been a while since I've seen a McLaren... I can almost forgive the Smart Mercedes, since it is just a Mercedes anyway. Bit like sticking BMW badges on a Mini, although I don't really see the point.

@@danielp4017 yeah or problem was that my father in law's clamps were made for springs from the 70s with more loops and they weren't wide enough to cope with the compression. Coil overs sound cool, but honestly the wife will kill me if I spend any more on it! 😀

Do you know what your weight difference is between the original and gti seats? not that it'd be a massive difference lol. Topic of The Week: i crashed the micra into a bush and had to fit a new front bumper with my uncle, was such a nuisance because its all little plastic bits clicking together, so you want to get them off, and try reuse them but the amount that would snap... infuriating, but i guess not too difficult. Not had much else to do other than servicing on my cars thankfully. Check engine light on my clio for a post cat O2 sensor, but thats a feature now, not a problem to be fixed lol

Hahah it's the same with the polo seats/the seats in my old Skoda, the GTI seats have honestly revolutionised the car in a way no other mods really have so far! Not completely sure but the new seats are definitely heavier by a little bit as they have slightly more functionality - not the end of the world though! Haha yeah I feel that - my Skoda got bumped into once on the rear bumper and I just could not be bothered to fix it because of the stress! So far including my parents buying the rims and some stuff that is scheduled for the channel next month it's probably at about £800, and the car only cost £400 in the first place haha! But that is a good question, I'm not sure - the seats are OEM and made specifically for this shape polo, I suppose it's basically no different to having the original seats in the car in terms of manufacturer and safety (not like I've put a set of recaros in there or something) but I'll find out soon enough!

i am a 17 year old, almost 18, learner driver who is close to finishing their learning and passing. I have been looking at cars to get as my first, and i seem to have my heart set on a 2006ish honda civic (European version). Any information or recommendations on anything would be lovely. im looking at spending £2000 max on the car btw
@CarsWithJB5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good plan - where are you from? Really depends on insurance and what you want out of your first car!

@@CarsWithJB I'm from the lovely east Midlands UK. I'm not hugely fussed about top speed and things like that, I want my first car to be something enjoyable to drive, and have many utilities. E.G. large boot as I need to transport my guitar a lot. And fuel economy and insurance are biggies aswell. My grandad for years had a Honda civic and it was a joy every time I went out with him in it, probably why I want one so much😂 Thanks for the reply

@@That-Dave-Guy as a 17 /18 year old I'm assuming you will buy the 1.4 petrol in which case I recommend buying the 2009 facelift model if budget stretches as your getting a far better engine 59 plate onwards

You could consider an estate if you want something practical etc - I always bang on about it but the Skoda Fabia Estate was the best first car I could ask for - making a video with useful low-insurance cars for young drivers and the newer Fabia Estate fits that category perfectly, I'd have a serious look into it!
