These are really nice family cars. A drive through the country roads with them could help generate some wonderful memories.

Few people want second hand electric cars. Even fewer want £160,000 Taycans second hand even going for £80,000 18 month later 😂. Even the new ones are massively discounted at Porsche.

@@JayRealubit I bought one in November 2023 (2022 model) and it is the best car I have ever owned (my past two cars were Tesla Model X and BMW X5). Very Sporty in Sport Plus, and a great GT car in Normal mode. Room for everything you need and you get there in style. Enough range for everyday use, and super fast Super Charge when needed.

looking at the last one on the list, I mean, I kind of get the depreciation. My car doesn't have 750hp, and it can't do 0-60 in 2.6s cuz it only has 370hp, but it's not like I'm lacking power, since I don't even stomp on full power more than 5 times a year. A Jaguar SVR, even if you don't use all 542hp, you still get the wonderful V8 sound track. An Audi R8, even if it's not that fast, still sounds amazing whether at any speed. The Porsche Taycan... there is zero incentive in getting the turbo S, other than some weird flex. The driving experience is pretty much identical to the lower models. You're not going to the track in it, and you're not going to set drag race records.

I realise that this video wasnt about affordability - but in all honesty who on earth can afford to drop 75k on a second hand family estate ?. Or indeed any family car. I know *everything* has gotten more expensive but it does boggle my mind (as a 49 year old) what has happened to car prices - ive always been a petrol head and have been lucky enough to own some amazing cars (including an s2000 which i bought new in 2002, and a Porsche 911 (996)) but ive never spent this level of cash and couldnt dream of doing so even today - 75k in my head is getting on for house purchase price (depending on where in the uk you live) maybe i am just getting old but it just seems strange to me to see it become common place that the car on a houses driveway is often worth a third or more of the houses value. When did cars become relatively, SO expensive?
@ApothecaryTerry10 ай бұрын
The pandemic screwed car prices, now we're just on a rollercoaster. Initially, there were part/material shortages, which meant new car shortages, increased used car demand and that bumped prices. Thanks to that, I think it was the CEO of Mercedes who actually made a press statement saying they finally realised how profit margins work - they'd been aiming for 5% but they realised that a 5% overall price increase wasn't a 5% profit increase, it's a 100% profit increase. Now, combined with all the other economic factors that are boosting prices, new car prices aren't really much above the inflation curve but that maths means they're not doing deals, so used cars don't have to compete with those, hence the prices are holding more. There are also brand/marketing factors in terms of "premium" brands - cheap brands like Hyundai/Kia are moving upmarket so their prices follow. For reference, a base Porsche 996 would have cost £64k new in 1998 - inflation-adjusted, that's £118.5k now, so nearly double. That means £75k now is roughly £40k in 996-era money. Still, I feel like £30k is enough to get any motoring experience anyone could want - my Porsche I recently sold was reviewed on this channel, the white Cayman. I test drove anything I could find up to about £70k to replace it, nothing excited me except a £16k Peugeot, so I bought that. £30k is an attainable number with a bit of saving and trading up cheaper cars over 5-10 years - I bought and daily drove that Porsche with a salary below the national average and it wasn't a stretch at all. Small side note/explanation: Yes I turned down a load of awesome cars for a Peugeot, there are better cars under £100k, but none more fun on a public road! More power/kg than a Golf R is a nice stat too... I realise I just wrote a really long comment with potentially conflicting points, but while my new car may have massage seats, it's still knackering to drive 10 hours (and work 20) in 2 days, so rather than make this comment make sense, I'm going to stop typing 😄

Great list! Alfa Romeo Giulia or Stelvio QV could fit this bill as you can get some killer deals due to depreciation. I specifically really like the Jag SVR, often forgotten about.
@ApothecaryTerry10 ай бұрын
I test drove a Giulia QV last year and that was I think £37k at the time, so they're definitely dropping a bit, although then we're into M3 territory and those depreciate rather nicely too, so perhaps the Stelvio fits this video better. Either way, I +1 your suggestions! Giulia is a tasty car too, I only didn't buy one because of the bonkers running costs and the notoriously awful Alfa dealer network...that and I had a craving for a car that really, really wanted to kill me and a 500hp+ RWD Italian saloon just seemed a bit sensible. The Jag SVR, do you mean the F-Type or F-Pace? Guessing F-Pace for this video, in which case exciting engine, but for some reason the car overall just makes me feel bored. Probably unfair, I've never driven one - I hate SUVs on principle, but I can't knock the Jag more than the Alfa really.

Who doesn't love a bit of Audi arse-sex 🤣 Old, but still funny, for a massive child like me... Budget for the next video(s) - I reckon pick a car that people might reasonably finance new. I always compared my Porsche's price to a new, base diesel Golf. Those are now £28.5k, or a Polo starts from £22k. Or, there are the UK's cheapest (real) cars, which all start at just over £13.5k. Saw a Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo (yet another concisely-named Porsche) in Crayon drive past me on the M1 yesterday. It is a sexy looking car, especially in twilight with the rear light bar on, although I spent the next 10 minutes being a massive nerd and wondering if I could program it to look like a Cylon, but I wouldn't buy the car just for that, probably. Genuinely tempted by that gen E Class, although I think I'd go for an E53 rather than E63. It's definitely on my test drive list, before I inevitably choose between the LC500 and LC500h (unless I can find that illusive post-2017 GS450h Premier with the PCS option and not black leather, of which I think there are 2 in the UK of which 1 probably has high mileage).

I’ve thought about some cheap finance videos, I’ll take a look at what makes sense! Re the Taycan - a colleague of mine has the cross Turismo turbo s, but he is a bit salty about it, as he actually wanted the Taycan Sport Turismo but didn’t realise it was coming out at the time, I wonder if there are more people in that same boat!
@ApothecaryTerry10 ай бұрын
@@CarsWithJB I'm actually torn on whether I prefer the Cross Turismo or Sport Turismo...normally I hate the faux 4x4 thing, but the Taycan is almost weirdly pancake-like, so that extra texture works well I think.
