Thank you so much for making these. My first husband (the father of our 4 kids) passed away when we were young and our kids were tiny. I can assure you every card we received was appreciated more than I can express. Every card from high end store bought to dollar store bought to classmate made (my oldest was grade 2) lifted us up and encouraged us. I am sure the handmade cards touched me most. That was in 1994. I am not sharing my story for sympathy but rather to lift you up. I think many cardmakers struggle with Sympathy cards. I just want to encourage the card making community and say that, in my experience, a Sympathy card means so much not only in the moment but long after as well. The fact that someone took the time to make it means even more.

Barb P Thank you so much for sharing your story. I can’t even imagine the struggles you went through losing you husband so young. I haven’t had a need to send off very many sympathy cards, but I make sure it’s priority when I do. I know I would appreciate the cards. It was easier to make the cards when they weren’t actually needed. Big hugs to you! 🌸

Thank you Ms. Kristie and yes not a subject we like, but I think you channeled your crafty energy my way. Yesterday I was at a scrapbook fundraiser for Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and my theme for the day was Sympathy Cards, I figured being at a happy event would help me deal with the heavy subject and using various sketches made making the cards easier. Unfortunately a good portion of what I was making was a donation to the hospital. As a group though we raised almost $9,000. Sympathy cards are always hard to make but the end result is always so appreciated.

Thank you for sharing. I always struggle with how to express my sympathy for someone else's pain. I think what makes your videos stand out (besides your amazing talent) is the care you put into every detail of them. The music adds to the background to remind us that not everything we create is going to be lighthearted, but instead is meant to try to help heal someone else's heart. I love the sending you strength sentiment and card with the rounded edges. It's what I always hope to be able to convey. I look forward to your next video.

Deborah Wildman Thank you! This was a difficult set of cards to make, but I know how important sympathy cards are. I’ve made a few here and there over the years. Mostly when I actually needed one. It is a bit easier to make a sympathy card when you don’t need it. When I started adding music, I knew the usual bubbly style was not right. So I searched for some new songs to fit the theme. 🌸

This was a perfect paper pad for sympathy cards with the muted colors and flowers. At this age we seem to have too many friends and acquaintances that we have lost. Thank you for producing this video with your usual grace. The first card really caught my attention because it was simple but elegant with a touching sentiment. I also liked the card made with scalloped border dies. Everything (patterned paper colors) meshed together for a beautiful card with the perfect sentiment.

@@KristieMarcotte One of the things that really impressed me was how you had your card layouts drawn out on index cards. I'm thinking having those on cards would be a good way to figure out what layout might work with what you have in mind to create. Having them in a file would be a quick way to see what would "work" and save a lot of time figuring out, or trying to remember what you did before. I'll be watching this again to get the awesome layouts that you did. For some reason, what few sympathy cards I've made I've always felt led to add at least 1 small butterfly some place on either outside, or inside of the card.
@KristieMarcotte4 жыл бұрын
Sharon Peterson I actually just print out the sketches on regular printer paper and cut the sheet in half. Then I file the sketches in an expandable file folder, sorted by websites. Nothing fancy, but it works for me. I also keep the sketches in folders on my computer. Then I can see several on the screen at the same time. Makes it easier when I’m selecting sketches. 🙂

I have tried several times to order the love from lizi sticker strips and it won't let me place the order. Do you know the secret?

What was the blueish cardstock you used on some of the cards?
@KristieMarcotte4 жыл бұрын
Maria Tomlin I do try to list the cardstock colors/brands on my blog. I believe the bluish color was Caspian by Coredinations.

Hello Ann! I don't believe I have ever used all of the same sketches for 2 different paper pads. I use sketches for inspiration, but I'm always looking for new sketches to try. I also like to use a variety of different background dies. 🙂

I truly hope you won't need to use any of them too. I made 4 or 5 a while ago. I kept finding that I couldn't find any mojo so I was buying cards. Then someone asked me, in a very oblique way, why I hadn't bothered to make them a sympathy card. My big problem is with greetings stamps. I'm not religous so I find there are often only one or two in a set that I would use. I'm thinking of have a couple made as I think, of all cards, these need to be true to yourself.

Anne-Marie Stevenson Thank you! I was actually struggling with mojo while making this set of cards. I had to just walk away several times. But I’m so happy I finished them. I have several religious sentiment sets, but decided to stick with non-religious sentiments for this set of cards. I think it’s a great idea to have some custom stamps made, especially if you haven’t found just the right sentiments. 🙂

Anne-Marie Stevenson Hello Anne-Marie. Sorry for your losses. Can I suggest something that I do for many different types of sentiments, also the inserts for cards. If you have a computer you could type up the words you want to say and choose the best font style and size to reflect the sentiment. Save them on your computer then just print them off to use when you make the sympathy card or to have ready to add to an appropriate card when the need arises

These are the saddest style of cards to make. The outside sentiment is the easy part but the inside one is the hardest!
@KristieMarcotte4 жыл бұрын
Roxanne Tucker I agree. At least sympathy cards are a bit easier when you don’t actually need them.
