Such a masterpiece. I love the fact that the emotional buildup of the romance is conveyed a lot through silence, looks, mannerism and subtle innuendos, creating one of the best chemistry between two people ever to be put on film I thought. It was almost like watching real life unfold. Director Todd Haynes giving the job to two actresses who really brought the emotional impact and subtlety. If this was just acting, and not a real chemistry between two people, just give each of them an Oscar for life and be done. Cate Blanchett was superb as always, but Rooney Mara was achingly hypnotizing.

I met my Carol 27 years ago, we fell madly in love, never loved so much or deeply in my life, it was as deep as the love In this movie and then one day she threw my heart away for another and broke it in two. To this day it's still in two and has never felt true love like that since! But this movie reminded me of her and how deeply I loved her then and still do even though it's been 27 years.

+Dan Lee He most definitely does, he did a way more significant job than Ridley Scott. Can't believe that he is the current frontrunner. I liked the Martian but Scott's direction seemed replacable. Haynes' instead is just so spot-on that I don't believe, another director could have done the film (just like with Inárritu last year).
@danlee86838 жыл бұрын
+hkfilmfreak1995 So sad for Todd Haynes and the film. It should have been nominated for best director and best picture. The freaking Martian got in instead of Carol. What do you expect from the group that is dominated by old white men?

Well, at least Scott is not nominated für Directing.

it's called Minimalism music, which is a musical style that has been used a lot in film soundtracks since it was developed. Philip Glass may be a front father in this style, it definitely has influenced other musicians. But Carter Burwell has made a fantastic beautiful piece that deserves an Oscar. I don't agree that people say Burwell borrowed or copied Philip Glass. Ridiculousness. Minimalism is a musical style, just like any other styles - blues, rock, pop. Tell me if all the blues songs don't sound the same, for crying out loud. Would you say that to other mainstream songwriters? Your ignorance and pompousness make me laugh.

*** Carol is a good movie. The romantic relationship between the two women is conducted with sensitivity and discretion by the director Todd Haynes. The novelty is that before approaching the two had already established relationships with men, one of whom has a daughter. It is curious to see how they deal with sexism and sexual repression of the 1950s. Romanticism overlaps all prejudice and looking forward to a happy ending, despite the obstacles imposed by the circumstances, it is perfectly plausible. Just like La vie d'Adèle, 2013, Carol did well at Cannes. Carol did not win the Palme d'Or, but took the female interpretation award for his performance of Rooney Mara, an actress known for social work. Recently, the band won five Academy Award nominations: Best Actress (Cate Blanchett), Best Supporting Actress (Rooney Mara), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Costume Design. In addition, he was elected by the American Film Institute (American Film Institute), one of the 10 best 2015 movies.

I can't decide if the "Opening" or Ennio Morricone's "Ouverture" from "The Hateful Eight" is my favorite original composition of last year. Each speaks volumes about the cinematic experience to be had with so little.

I don’t think a live action piece of music has gotten me like this since Lullaby in Pan’s Labyrinth (although that one still hasn’t been topped). Must be my fondness of the melancholy. I do sometimes think this song sounds more somber than the film is, though. The song alone made me expect some sort of horrible ending. Alright film, although I don’t get why it’s gotten as much praise as it has. The actors bring the looks and tension though, that’s for sure. And then there’s this god damn haunting song!
