Just found your channel today, and I can’t get enough of your sound and musicality while you play. I also am insanely jealous of your long rolls and buzz rolls. If you wouldn’t mind, do you have any tips on how to practice/what to practice to increase the smoothness and consistency of rolls? Thanks so much! Can’t wait to watch more from you

Great recording! The playing is always great and so is the drum itself. As someone who records drums constantly, I really admire the sound that was captured. It’s better than being in the room with it.

I've never really fallen in love with a Copperphonic…………………..Until now!!! One of the best Luddys I've heard in years. You just made a strong case for Fiberskyn's on snares!. Gorgeous sound all through the range!. That low range practically made me weep!!. It's a desert island recording drum. Oh, and you're very.....very good!!

Excellent stick control, I mean really great! Even when my hands were working, (like, 25 or 30 years ago), I could only do some of that. That, and the fact that I really never mastered the match grip. I started playing back in the early 60's, (I was 8 yrs old in 64 when I started), and I learned to play with the conventional grip. Years later, I could see some advantages to the match grip but I was already pretty deeply 'programmed' for the conventional grip and never was able to acclimate to a match grip. I used the match for some real simple stuff once in a while but nothing more than that. I still play at home just to help all my joints to stay flexible and working but nowadays, arthritis in my fingers keeps me from the finesse buzz rolls and neat little tricks I used to do. It's been quite a while since I saw any really nice stick work. I have some Buddy Rich videos when he had The Rocket City Band (or did he call it The Rocket City Orchestra?). Once in a while, I'll watch some of his stuff but otherwise, I haven't seen that kind of stick-work in a long time. That copper snare is really a great sounding snare and you proved the range of versatility that it's capable of, but I have to tell you; your choice in cymbals just doesn't make it. The hats are OK, but that 'hub-cap gong' is definitely not making the trip as a ride cymbal. I would have liked to hear a lot of that drum work done with a 24" or even a 26" K-Ride. The Zildjian rides are still some of the best ride cymbals produced. About 5 years ago, I bought a townhouse, (which is interconnected to another homeowners townhouse), so I couldn't stay with acoustic drums. I had to buy an eKit so that I could control volume levels through an amp and at night, through headphones. It's a rather large kit with dual kicks, 4 toms and snare, and 5 cymbals, (e-cymbals). I much prefer acoustic drums and it's the first and only electric drum kit I ever owned and played, (great for home recording and practice, but I'd never take it on stage). The module is an RBM-20 Pearl RED Box, which offered great versatility for a module in that price range. My point is that I've spent hours, over a period of weeks, trying to dial in the 26" Zildjian ride cymbal's characteristics and never was able to get the sound the way I remembered it 'back in the day'. Maybe some of the newer drum module technology can pull it off. Anyway, I just realized that I'm slipping off topic, so even though I didn't care for the cymbal selection, the demo was great! Thanks, Rich
