Just remember to stay on top of your oil change maintenance, use Pre-mix, and rev to 9000 under load at least once a day. This will help the apex seals last a long time and keep down carbon build up. Oh yeah, don't use oil lighter than 10W-30 as lighter oil doesn't protect the bearings enough. Mazda USA recommends the light oil, but Mazda Japan and all the specialty Rotary Tuning shops recommend 10W-30 or higher.

It digs up the hill with spinning wheels and you don't really have to fight it, you just steer it with the gas pedal, if you want to change from left to right, you don't even really have to steer, you just lift the throttle to shift the weight,... i love mine so much, i could write for hours.

The RX-8 is slightly lighter than those Bimmers, also I think with rotary Mazdas, these really are built to be top notch - the handling should fully support its power and vice versa. If a car is quicker then it is about a lot of many other factors - take revving for instance - I think that RX8 revs faster than the Bimmers, add to that its amazing handling and what do you get? You get faster corner speed. I love Mazdas, but I am unsure when it comes to rotary reliability whether I would then prefer the 330d, the M3 or go with the Mazda... wait, I know: if I had the money to get that M3 then I would rather buy a E46 M3 and... a Miata, done, coolsies :)

The beauty of high revving engines like the rotary is that engine torque does not matter. Engine torque only matters as a component of power when talking about performance; it's something to consider when talking about transmission design or efficiency. It's wheel torque that matters, and if you've got a high revving engine you can just use shorter gears.
@dudeshark24715 жыл бұрын
Well it highly depends on application. Horsepower is a function of torque, you can’t make horsepower without torque but you need to be able to rev to go fast. Take for example a diesel (I’m talking stock) they make massive torque figures but because they’re very slow to rev they don’t really do speed. On the flip side, having a strong torque curve gives you more horsepower at a broader RPM range. Meaning your average (not peak) horsepower will be higher.
@mikemx555 жыл бұрын
Finally someone that understands that revs alone OR torque alone are meaningless figures. It all boils down to the gearing used. And for power you need both torque and revs. And it's always a tradeoff situation.. the higher the revs, the lower torque you're gonna have, because it means it's a engine with lower stroke, thus rotating faster, but having less radius on the crankshaft, thus producing less torque (a force applied at a distance)
@mikemx555 жыл бұрын
and they often need to idle higher, doe to the lower torque as well. I see it more as a percentage of the rev range used, and on that level, it is the same as a lower reving eng

Rotaries are great track cars, the entire chassis and the engine actually favor these high rev scenarios. New engine will last plenty of time. Did you see where it beat the Lexus?

@@kleisgjata5644 Plenty of rotaries with proper maintenance and knowledge going well over 100k realistically. Rob Dahms old 3 rotor lasted 8 years at around 800 wheel. I understand the joke but you can make the same about plenty of piston motors blowing holes in the block.

Had my RX-8 231 for about 1 1/2 years now and would totally recommend one. Outside of regular maintenance the only issues I've had were the catalytic converter collapsing and a couple of safety recalls which were sorted for free. You do need to keep on top of maintenance (even moreso than a piston engine) and they drink fuel like nothing else I've ever driven but they're so much fun to chuck around. I will say that finding a good one is getting more difficult though, so many need rebuilds and/or haven't been looked after.
@nulla9601 Жыл бұрын
Is it hard to replace the catalytic converter? I've seen one for very cheap and it says only the fuel pump and catalytic converter aren't working. I'm of the idea of better fix it right away than to pay 2 grand more for one that's gonna fail eventually as well so I have to change them either way. The price is not to bad but I couldn't really find much on how hard it is to replace (I have a good garage with a lift but not too much experience yet)

Having driven a 1.8 mk1 round curborough a number of times, on Hsd dt coilovers and some nice tyre/wheel combos, I can confirm that they’re damn awesome round there!! That RX8 is why I found the vid though, toying up the idea of getting one for fun and this cemented it on my potential list for sure

The RX8 is a brilliant car. It's stupidly, ridiculously under appreciated. Do be careful about the tires. If you go too high with grip, the stock suspension is too soft to properly handle the grip. The damping is great, but you'll roll a lot and end up on or near the bump stops. It starts to become easy to upset the car if you're cornering hard on rough or uneven terrain. If you're running high grip summers, you'll want to step to a little stiffer suspension. The RX8 is best suited for low to medium grip tires, will feel the most natural, and will keep you off the bump stops even over bumps while full on hard through a corner.

I love my rx8. Warm her up before you get on it. Premix a lil bit each fill up, and do oil changes every 3k with conventional oil. It's a reliable race car, and practical. One of a kind!! People dont realize how great they are until they actually drive one.
