My spirits would be plenty lifted by the fact that three planes only got to 3k people, the same year gun homicide got 10k. Even without knowing that now the number is around 20k, with all the brave men and women working at TSA. The WTC planes were also HELD UP by guns, but I guess hold-ups on the ground just don't put people's spirits down. However, a direct comprison to cartoons from ww2, which preceded allied bombings of supply lines that exacerbted concentration camp deaths, in fact would put ME in a sour mood. Others the opposite. Even without the knowledge we now have, that it caused DIRECT deaths. The order of events was this: the attacks, then American spirits were raised high, then majority of the deaths. Democracy in a nutshell.

What you need to understand about South Park’s portrayal of Osama, was that this was basically right after 9/11, and they were absolutely doing everything they could to make him look stupid and silly, to try to make people laugh in that dark time.

That Bin Laden episode must have been very impactful at the time. For context, it came out right after 9/11 so they decided to make a Looney Tunes parody because they thought he needed to be laughed at
@Adamant_Adam

I think of this whenever I watch this episode. "Let me explain the reason I think this is the best episode [of South Park]. It's not the funniest episode, It's not the smartest episode. It's not even the best written episode. But it came at a time when America NEEDED South Park. ..." "It had been 3 months since the previous episode- and in that time- not ONLY did 9/11 happen, but a series of anthrax attacks that was being sent via mail was putting the country through a state of absolute fear. Security tightened everywhere, our country was on the brink of war, America was changed forever. Nobody knew how or what to feel. So when it was announced that South Park was going to return to tv, a lot of people were wondering, 'what are they going to do? what could they do?" Would it be a touching episode, an in depth episode, what side would they pick, what issues were they going to tackle? what the HELL was south park going to do? Literally- the first frame set the mood...." "This is what we needed. We needed a good laugh at the entire thing, and we NEEDED it to be done by South Park..." Doug Walker's "Top 11 south park episodes" (I merely quote it, but I recommend watching his review on it.)

You have no idea how funny that Osama Bin Laden episode was when it came out. The looney toons parody isn’t very funny, and certainly not a good representation of this show’s political genius… but at the time, it was ELATION to watch someone go all in, and just make a total joke of Osama Bin Laden. The tragedy was still fresh, less than 2 months old, and there was legit anxiety about another possible attack. Lots of cautious tip-toeing in general when talking about Bin Laden. It was the first episode to air after 9/11, and South Park didn’t go political, they just made the biggest villain of our time into a wacky cartoon character. It was exactly what we needed, and it was brilliant.

I'll be honest, a few years ago when my granny died, she was cremated and we received her ashes. I was huge into South Park at the moment and saw this episode. My mom also likes South Park and I asked if I could try Cartman's chocolate milk mix. She said I could and we put a little spoonful in a glass of milk and stirred it. I drank it and then immediately spit it out. Ashes have the texture of sand and tiny rocks and it was absolutely disgusting. Don't be a dumbass like me, everyone. (That should be a given but if you had the opportunity, wouldn't you try it???) Sadly, no memories and/or first person view from my granny's eyes never happened and that was also a reason why I wanted to try it. Both of my hopes were wrong but I still oddly feel like a part of my granny's soul will always be with me anyway. I love her and miss her so 0/10 for an tasteful experience but a 6/10 when it comes to closure!

The chocolate milk is a reference to a movie where 3 friends smoked the ashes of a dead friend and were able to see him again.
